We don't usually watch TV very much on vacation. For entertainment we might watch the local news (int he neative tongue) and commercials. I would estimate this amounts to about an hour/week on the average. We usually do this late at night before bed or in the morning while we are heading to go out for the day. The exception was on 9/11 while we were in Arles, France. We heard something terrible was happening in America, so we went back and watched CNN and watch all the events unfold. We were stuck on the TV for hours for days. It was a shocking thing to see.

I watch the news - at home and on vacation. There is always something to read if I get tired of sightseeing, so why waste the time on more then the main news and weather service?

I have to admit - Yes, I DO watch TV while on vacation. But totally differently than when I am home. I watch the weather channel A LOT - even though it's frequently wrong. I also watch the local morning news shows.

I seem to watch a lot of TV while I'm on a beach vacation...either because it's rainy out or it's late afternoon and I've had too much sun. Otherwise I'll just catch a few minutes of news while I'm getting dressed. I also like to watch TV at night to put me to sleep...I've always done this at home. <BR><BR>The most interesting programming I've watched on vacation was the Sydney Olympics, from the Czech Republic. They showed sports I've never seen before! These are the ones they never air in the USA because we don't have any good competitors.<BR><BR>Also in the Czech Republic they have the &quot;naked weatherperson&quot; on every night...the person (a female one day, a male the next) appears on screen totally naked, then dresses in the appropriate clothes for tomorrow's weather. I had to see it to believe it.

OK. I admit it. <BR>I'm a communications geek and love watching local TV and listening to local radio broadcasts when traveling. It was my major in college and I still dabble in it.<BR><BR>I love it when the hotel has cable TV with a good remote control. On business travel, I've been known not to return to certain hotels due to no HBO, Showtime, etc.<BR>I'M HOOKED!!!<BR>We used to joke that our idea of &quot;roughing it&quot; was staying at a place with black/white TV and no remote control.<BR><BR>On trips of 3-4 days or longer, I've been know to take along the ol' CCrane radio copmplete with AM/FM/TV and weather bands.<BR><BR>Ditto on watching Bonanza or any other US TV show dubbed in a foreign language.<BR>Pretty funny.<BR>Kal-tech

We do not watch TV at home, and do not watch TV while on vacation. I find it annoying when the turn down service opens the cabinet doors containing the TV, and places the remote and TV Guide on the nightstand.

I'm find turndown service ITSELF, annoying.

I always watch the morning and evening news while I'm on vacation. I do like to see the local news to get a better feel for what's going on in the place that I'm visiting.

I'm really sorry that my honest opinion post that I tried hard to keep very bland and tame was deemed too edgy to remain. I really was interested in a cross-sectional response from heterosexual America.

I try not to. It seems so mechanical and vacations ideally should be free from that kind of thing and more filled with things you don't normally do so that time passes more slowly and the trip is more memorable.

Isn't registration wonderful. Since hardly anyone is posting any thing about travel any more, this is what we get. What an important question and look at all the intelligent responses. It gives you a pretty good idea of what the majority of people who wanted registration are like.

I generally don't watch too much tv on vacation, I might turn it on in the morning to get local weather and then in the evenning to wind down a bit before bed. We don't go on vacation during hockey playoffs anymore though because my husband will want to spend every night watching hockey in the room or at a sports bar. I like hockey too, but it's cheaper to watch it at home.

Since I travel most of the summer I need TV (generally local news in the mornings) to keep up with world events. I remember turning on the TV in France to the news of Princess Diana's death. And there was the morning in September in San Francisco when I awoke, turned on the news to see what the &quot;fog&quot; report was and couldn't figure out why they were showing a sci-fi movie with New York being blown up -- it was September 11.<BR>While in France, I invariably get hooked into the late afternoon showing of the Tour de France. And while getting dressed for dinner, there's nothing more entertaining than old Happy Days reruns with the Fonz speaking French, unless it's Homer Simpson with the same voice as the Fonz!

speaking of Simpson's in french reminds me of seeing such on my trip to Montreal and Quebec; not really a Simpson's fan myself, but my 17 yr old son is, so i watched it a while...<BR>when i got home, the same episode was on - so i got to see what they were saying in english - how fun!<BR>

olsen1503, my original post had to do with Pay Per View in hotels. Think about it and you might figure out what I was talking about. I'd repeat the question, but it would just get nixed again.

sfimporter:..actually i still dont get your oriinal question...not to be rude.iam sorry,just do not understand it. as for watching tv on the road,during vacations...its nice to watch the local news back at your room,after a hard day on you r feet. order a pizza ,catch up on some sports and yes even watch some pay per view stuff. some of the hotel tv's are pretty good as well. i hate it when the tv..is at a 45 degree angle to the bed though...and its bolted in there....
