I always travel off season too. I'll take chilly weather over 90 degree heat and crowds anyday. And I'm not a beach person, so it works out great. We are looking at Turkey for February, and hotels are quite a bit lower during that period than the rest of the year, so that's just an added bonus.

I am with you TC...I am not a beach person either, when it comes to trips. I lived on the beach for most of my life. I love European cities in the fall or winter. My last 4 trips to Europe (Switzerland,Italy,Ireland and Ireland)were all in January and late February.

Andy,
I think I'm a bit of both, Some holidays have pushed boat out a bit and maybe overspent (i.e upgrading once on impulse going from UK to Phili, but it was a fab way to travel (ah the memory!!) Bought a view things back that got better of me (once bought a dinner service back wrapped in our clothes, and would you believe it, NO breakages! and am a sucker for quilts.. But try to keep with a budget, if we do go a bit mad with our'flexible friend' then will pay off quickly once we get home. We are foodies so taking enough to enjoy our grub matters to us. Like nice neat, clean looking places though will not pay silly 4* prices for accom. Think it depends on your finances at time of holiday, and maybe place you're visiting. But each to their own.. |
Well, I certainy don;t mind saving money - but not at the cost of comfrot and enjoying the trip. We look for the best prices - but for what we want.
As for B&Bs/frugality and planning -it's jsut as much fun planning a trip even if you're using major hotels, renting a car etc. When we spend that much we want the best options - and it takes a lot of planning (there are a lot of expensive but mediocre hotels out there, some in bad locations). |
Not traveled beyond my means but certainly sacrificed other things.
My furniture is worn and saggy and my carpet is as old as my kids. My kitchen needs a remodel and my wardrobe is basic and functional. My SIL thinks I’m crazy to spend my savings on travel but every time I consider staying home so I CAN purchase new furniture I get kind of weak in the knees. |
No never, and I do not live beyond my means also. I am a child of depression era folks who did not have much and never ever overspent :-).
