Do you think these guys were just sightseeing?

Last Thursday 3 middle eastern men were found on top of a water tower with a video camera at the Easton resorvoir in Fairield County Ct. They were arrested for trespassing(no trespassing is allowed at the reservoir) and then released. Word got out about this and I watched the news that evening expecting a lead story. There was a small blurb at the end of the broadcast.

Some people are nervous about this and can't imagine what these guys were possibly doing there. Others are speculating that they were "just filming the scenery" and visiting the area. I don't know about you, but it seems pretty fishy to me. Yes, I know I'm racially profiling, but given recent events, I don't that's out of line.

So do you think these guys were just sightseeing? This has got me spooked since these reservoirs supply water to my area!

Creepy!
Unfortunately, we can never take our well-being for granted anymore.
I guess all we can do is take sensible precautions, live our lives, and hope that when these maniacs strike, it is not in our own backyard.

here in the NYC area the story received full coverage. Shortly after the arrest it was determined with certainty that the "men" were three high school boys, one of whom had just purchased a new video camera. They happened to be driving byt the reservoir and thought the water tower would make a good place to try it out for some aerial views. It's uncofrtunate that the full story did not receive more adequate explanation. I fault the media for their usual tactic of headlines for the bad news and little to no publicity fir retractions, corrections or explanations of things that turned out to be relatively simple and innocuous.

The fact remains that our water supply system is by far the most vulnerable part of our national facilities. There's just no way to have adequate security, and the things that can mess up water (e.g. cyanide) are so incredibly easy to disperse and so potent.

I assume no one has recovered the cynanide that was taken from the hijacked truck in Mexico last week?

Really Owen? I live near that reservoir. Anyway only a few people heard about the story in town and everyone who did thought it was very creepy. I watched the news and didn't see ANY coverage. Living in Weston I normally watch NY news. I'd like to read more about it. Do you know what station so I can go on the website and try and find the article? Thanks.

Sorry H2O is so right. The Aspetuck reservoir is right up the road from me (I run by it all the time), and it is wide open. There are plenty of no trespassing signs but unfortunately absolutely nothing keeping anyone from walking right in. I suspect this is true of most reservoirs. It's a little frightening that they are so accessable.

I live near the Soo Locks and the same thing happened around here just a few weeks after 9/11. The story was that 2-3 middle eastern descent men were taking video's of the locks (in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan).
Then word got out that these guys were being watched by the F.B.I.
A week or so later, the news said that none of it was true. Yes, there were people filming the locks, but they were not being watched by the F.B.I., they were just tourists.
It had folks our area a little nervous!
