Do you like the new Fodor's Home Page?

Thought I had landed in the wrong Forum tonight! So...do you like the new Fodor's Home Page??? Travel Talk seems to be buried way down there. You really have to look for it & I knew what I was looking for!

tcapp Mar 10th, 2004 04:19 PM

I liked the old home page much better. I was like you, I thought I was in the wrong forum.

wow Mar 10th, 2004 04:19 PM

For some reason, I tend not to look @ the top tool bar!

janis Mar 10th, 2004 04:35 PM

I never (or almost never) go into the home page. I just bookmark the Forums and bypass it.

GoTravel Mar 10th, 2004 04:45 PM

Fodors has Travel Talk buried because the forums have more accurate up to date information than the guides have.

We don't provide revenue. The ads and booksales provide revenue.

A lot of the information on these forums contradicts that in the Fodors travel guides.

Think about the last time you flipped through a Fodors travel guide or the mini guides on the site and seen something glaringly obvious that was missing/ommited/wrong?

I don't. I also thought I was at the wrong forum. The second time I noticed the tool bar up top and got here.

"Fodors has Travel Talk buried..."

How so? It's right there on the prominent, clickable navigation bar at the top of the start page, listed as "Talk".

GoTravel Mar 10th, 2004 05:27 PM

Levon you are absolutely correct and I don't know how I missed the bar at the top? Where are those reading glasses? LOL!

nytraveler Mar 10th, 2004 05:42 PM

No - the old home page was better.

Wonderful. I hope they are happy with it. I followed the booking link, never did this before if it was on the old page. I saw, after I followed it, that it was Expedia.

Surfergirl Mar 10th, 2004 06:06 PM

Ditto

BJinHolland Mar 11th, 2004 02:31 AM

The most anoying thing to me is the constant Expedia pop up ads. Enough already!

emd Mar 11th, 2004 03:56 AM

I think fodors has added opther features w/the change. I saw one post after the change where there was no way to post a reply, the captions at the top and bottom of the post have been removed, so you can still read the post but not add to it.

GoTravel Mar 11th, 2004 04:29 AM

emd, Fodors does that with controversial threads that still have good information.

You can read the thread but can't post. Those posts are usually heavily edited.

And, Travel Trivia (my favorite feature!) is waaaaay @ the bottom! I can't get to that via the top tool bar.
All in all, I find the new home page "cluttered". There's too much in your face when you open it up. And, add to that the Expedia pop up (as mentioned already) & the over all experience is annoying.

In this day and age, why would anyone NOT have a free popup stopper installed on his/her computer? I'd go crazy without one!

I too keep the talk forum bookmarked. I actually go right to the Europe one, then come here after going through it. I had no idea there was a new Home page; I never see it.

emd1 Mar 11th, 2004 06:48 AM

Thanks, GoTravel. I've been active on here for over a year but haven't noticed not being able to post additonal comments to a thread before; I've just seen them get deleted all together.

wow Mar 11th, 2004 06:54 AM

Good point about the free pop-up stoppers, Patrick. The reason that I do not install a "free" pop-up stopper is b/c I believe that nothing is ever "free"! And, when I read clauses such as the following that routinely appear in Free Pop-Up Stopper User Agreements I am reminded of this.
"Nothing contained in this Agreement limits x's( name of co.) liability to you in the event of death or personal injury resulting from x's negligence or for the tort of deceipt (fraud)."

Wow, I am with you on the travel trivia, before I'd try to answer practically each question, now I'm not going to scroll down to look for it!

As for the new layout - before it was easy just to click on USA forum, now I have to go to "talk" and wait and wait and wait till it loads, it's so slow now!

DixieChick Mar 11th, 2004 10:18 AM

Since I bookmarked the Europe and US forums, I had forgotten there even WAS a homepage.
