Do we need a rental on Kauai?

We are going to Kauai in April, staying at the Marriott in Lihue. Will we need a rental car or are taxi services affordable/convenient? Thanks for the responses.

Hi Carolynn -

I would certainly get a rental car if I were you. We really enjoy Kauai -- all of the incredible places to hike, snorkel and drive aren't accessible by taxi. It's not that taxis wouldn't drop you off -- they certainly would -- it's more a question of your return.

Have a wonderful vacation!

Kate

There is no debate. You need a car to get around. You will pay through the nose with taxis. I hope you realize Kauai attractions are spread out. Kauai is not like mainland cities or mainland beach towns.
I'm not sure why you would even CONSIDER NOT renting a car.

Hi Carolynn,
... take a rental car. Especially to drive those 365 widings up to Hana and than return on the otherside of the island. it will take you a day - you will need a 4-wheel drive and go to the seven pools. You will love the windings, the thick jungel, you will love the lourish lullabying village of Hana, you will love the wild romantic southcoast of MAui.
You def need a rental car. Need more infoe - email me
Shain/eu/de/düsseldorf

Carolynn -
I hope you get to Maui too.
haha - Ive forgot that you were on Kauai.
But there a convertible car would be my suggestion. Winding up to the Waimea canyon or Nohili Pt. to sight the Ka Napali coast or even to get to the wettest spot on earth, or what about the biggest lighthouse on earth.
So - tons to do and to see, not forget Piopu Beach spitting horn and the many abundan beaches that still were found on Kauai.
More infoes needed ? Email me
Shain/eu/de/düsseldorf

Could "Shain" be Noach reincarnated?

Shain Jan 30th, 2002 09:16 AM

Who is Noach?
mmmmh
Shain/eu/de/düsseldorf

Carolyn not only get a rental get a convertible. We had a blast driving around with the fresh air in our faces. When it got hot we turned on the air conditioner but we never put up the top. Course that might be becasue my tall dh could not see out the windshield without scrunching down, as small inconvenience though. Have a great time in Kauai. It's a beautiful place.

Noach was an annoying person who has never travelled to any place but wanted to be a part of the forum. So he/she would answer posts and sound like he/she had been there but really he/she had not. Sounded like someone who wanted to travel but couldn't.

To KK,
Im very sorry to tell you the truth, that I ahve been visited the wonderful island of Hawaii several times.
With 6,5 weeks of holiday a year, the last 12 years, you might get an idea,
where I have been already.
I apologize for that I was so enthousiastic about these two islands that I thought Carolynn wanted to go to Kauai.
And - not counted the many citytrips within europe over the weekend.
And - I'm sorry some for business too.
Do I really have to proof this to you - Pooh ?
Greetings from the old-continent.
Shain/eu/de/düsseldorf

Shain- I was not saying you were like Noach; I was only answering your question-"Who was Noach?" And I don't think you sound like him/her at all! Please continue to post. I apologize for any misunderstanding.

Not to get off track, but how did you happen to choose Lihue as opposed to another part of the island?

Shain Feb 1st, 2002 01:15 AM

Hi KK,
I'm very sorry - my comment was towards "hmmm". Sorry.
Also I would not let me disturb from posting my opinions or experiences while on a travel.
Thanks again.
Shain/Eu/de/düsseldorf
