Do not eat at Commanders Palace
We had the worst Sunday brunch there! A waste of time and money.
And where might this Commander's Palace be located?
Lori - Commander's Palace is in New Orleans and is regularly rated as one of the best restaurants in the country. If you ever have an opportunity to go, I highly recommend it. My husband and I have been eating there for over 30 years and have never been disappointed.
Quit whining because you had a bad meal. Commander's is rated as one of the nation's best year in and year out, and even New Orleans locals love the place. We all get subpar meals and service at the best places every now and then..."off days" happen.
I personally like Commander's Palace but agree with the previous post that bad meals can sometimes happen at good restaurants. The Brennan family does a great job with all of their restaurants, even if not all are really "my thing." I certainly would disagree with telling anyone "do not eat at..." as this often a matter of interpretation.
Yes, good restaurants can have a "bad day," but I too ate at Commander's Palace and everything that I ate was HORRID! Coming from NYC and being exposed to all difernt types/levels of cooking, I have no idea why such a big deal is made about this restaurant.
I really find it hard to believe that Commander's Palace was "horrid." A bit melodramatic, perhaps?
I would say that a restaurant that charges the prices that this place does not deserve to have a bad day. Everything should be exceptional, and if for some reason something isn't, management should do something to compensate for that which was lacking.
I have to agree with those of you about Commander's. It is a wonderful restaurant, but I have compared my most recent visit with those of the years I lived in New Orleans. I moved from there in early 1997.

I do notice a change, but I don't feel it should be considered "horrid."

The biggest change is Emeril's in the CBD. It was one of the best places in the city to eat. I recently wrote Emeril a note and contacted his Director of Operations about the situation. I hope it will improve.

But I would recommend Commander's anytime.

Crabcake
I agree with Crabcake on this one. Commander's is still to be recommended. Personally, I hope more people avoid Commander's so it won't be so darn hard to get a reservation! :-) I also think Emeril's has gone downhill quick, but I still like NOLA and Delmonico, his other two restaurants.
The seating was poor, the food was not good, there was no music at the alleged "jazz brunch" as they said they were sorry that one band called in sick and the other decided to take an extended break. I find this unacceptable for it's reputation but had I read the book that I had..(I gave it away on our last day there) it said that Commander's is resting on it's past laurels.

Most of the restaurants in New Orleans are expensive. It became so due to the increase in conventioneers selecting this city above others like New York, Baltimore, Miami.

When you live in the area, you learn quickly what restaurants to avoid. No question that many of the older restaurants like Galatoires are not what they used to be. Moreover, the celebrity chefs took over in the mid 90's and changed the restaurant scene more often for the worse.

If you want a good breakfast, try the Camellia Grill at the end of St. Charles Avenue - the omelets are to die for - absolutely delicious. Cafe du Monde is an old favorite for sweets; we frequently ate at La Madeleine, which was wonderful. The pastry was light and flaky; the croissants were buttery and the quiche were extraordinary. The make an awesome omelette there as well.

Who needs brunch?

One of the best meals I've ever had was at Commander's Palace. I've had many friends eat there and never heard anything negative. I'd definately eat there again.
Crabcake - in N.O., a good bloody mary is brunch!
We have eaten at Commanders often and lunch and dinner are great. I have to agree, though, brunch is a total waist of time and money. Can't understand why they can't seem to get it right.
Christina,
Please stay home and spare us your whining about every place you've been --you manage to have something negative to say about everywhere I've read your comments. Here's a challenge: what DO you like?
