do new york cabs take cred cards

I"m wondering.

More and more I see taxis in NYC that DO take them. I have no idea what the percentage of credit card accepting taxis might be these days.

I was there in mid Feb and none took CCs (nor pesos).

Both the taxi I took from LGA to midtown and the one I took back to LGA had the credit card symbols and the "we accept" on the glass partition.

Even if you see the CC symbol, many of the machines are miraculously "broken" if you try to use one. I would take cash with you. Don't count on allowing them to take a card.

There was a test of this - with a few cabs equipped to take cards - and it was very unpopular (with the drivers). So - assume that they won't.

If you want to use CC to/fro ariports call a car service - they all take CC. It doesn;t really make sense around town - when a ride may be $8 - $10 or so.

Just a word of advice--one of the few times I used a credit card for a cab was after I'd had a knee replacement about a month previously. Since I hadn't been out and about much, I'd charged almost nothing on this card.

Two days after my taxi ride, someone tried to charge $2500 worth of electronics on my card.

I didn't say anything to the cab company, but I really think the driver tried to use my card number.
