Do I need a rental car on Maui and Kauai?
Hi,
I'll be spending 5 days on Maui and 2 days on Kauai in October 2003. On Maui I'll be at the Renaissance Wialaea the entire 5 days and on Kauai, I'll be at the Marriott Kauai. Should I line up a rental car for a portion of the trip, the whole trip or none of the trip?? Please help. |
I would want one for the whole trip. Everything is spread out and it gives you the freedom to explore.

Definitely all of it

I would definitely rent a car on Maui. Maybe you would want to spend all your time at your hotel, but probably not. It's quite a drive to Lahaina but worth the effort to visit. It's lots of fun going to the "swap meet" in Kaluhi on Saturday mornings (if you are there on a Saturday) and a drive to the Up Country and Haleakla is fun, too. Get a book on Maui before you go or pick up one of the many pamphlets, coupon books that are available in every grocery store, airport, etc. On is "101 things to do on Maui", full of great ideas. Have fun, we will be missing our trip to Maui this year, the first time in many years! But, will be sure and go next year. Sasi

DEFINITELY YOU NEED A CAR ON BOTH ISLANDS. If you do not rent one, you will be stuck at your resort. Everything is spread out on both islands. I would not do a vacation on either without a car.

Have fun |
