Do I miss something?
On May 14 five adults 40,40,60,60,70 years old. and one almost seven years old are flying to 1. Las Vegas, stay 2 nites at Flamingo hotel 2.Second day we will do one short trip to Hoover Damp.
3.Third day driving to Zion stay at Dessert Pearl, stay 3 nightes I would like to do part of the Narrows and Angels landing 4.drive to Page and stay one night at Marriot and see Antelope Canyon(i am not sure if we should trade Page for something else like Bryce or Monument Valey, but my family do not want to drive to much) 5.Drive to GC-south rim and stay 2 nites at Maswick lodge.Would love to do Havasu falls, but seems like it is not possible. 6.Drive to Sedona.I do not know which direction would be best yet.Stay 3 nites at Sedona.Rent the house from foothills rental property-Mountain Majesty-Looks very good. 7.Than spend one nite at Scottsdale at Chaparral suites resort.Drop there car next morning, they have Dolar car drop out.And go with shutle to Phoenix airport. I made this itinerary with help of reading Fodorites. So I just want to make sure I do not miss anything.I am originally from Europe Czech republic.I live at Florida now .But never been further west than New Orleans. Thanks for help. |
Sounds like a reasonable plan. The drive from Brice to South rim is verylong, so stopping in Page instead of Brice would be a good idea. |
"Second day we will do one short trip to Hoover Damp." :))
The word is "Dam" |
I hate for you to go that far and not see Bryce. I much prefer it to Zion. (MHO, only) I do agree that the drive from Bryce to South Rim is a long one. Can you cut one day from Sedona to include Bryce AND Page?
Regarding dam vs. damp: Maybe she just wanted to be euphemistic.
LOL. when I saw damp, I was tempted to reply myself. It could get damp there. Anybody see "Fools Rush In"? ;-)

Regardless of whether you skip Page and go to Bryce then the south rim or if you go to Page and then the south rim, you will be doing a lot of driving. I personally think that to see what you will see will be worth it but be prepared to be in the car. I love Zion and I also love Bryce. I think it would be good to go from Zion to Bryce, stay at Bryce for a night, then go to Page for a night. The extra night you are squeezing in here could be taken from one of the Sedona nights. If you don't want to give up one of the nights in Sedona then I still recommend going from Zion to Bryce and then down to the south rim. It will be along drive from Bryce to the south rim but it is certainly doable with some scenic stops along the way.

thanks for reply,I was just wondering,is Bryce only for hikers?Or what else we can do there?
Bryce is one of the few parks where you can actually see a huge part of the park without actually doing a "hike". There is basically one road that goes right down the center of the narrow park for about 18 miles with many overlook spots with incredible views. There are a couple of very short detour roads off of it for less than a mile to get to additional overlooks. For many of these, you can literally get out of your car and look over the edge and see magnificent views. The further from your car you wander the different they look but you can certainly get a good feel for the park if you don't actually do real hiking there. Some of the hikes are difficult while others are very easy as they follow the rim of the canyon on a flat surface. Although I definitely recommend hiking there, if you don't plan on hiking there you could do the park in a day without any problem.

Bryce is worth the drive even if you don't do any of the hikes. If you don't want to have to do some many motel changes, you can always add another night to Zion and make Bryce a day trip.

should I exchange Bryce for Lake Powell?
I would try for Grand Canyon rimside rooms at Kachina Lodge..Maswik is away from the rim.
Bryce is certainly much nicer than Lake Powell. It's unique. You can get an idea from the several overlooks but still the best way would be to hike down. The combination hike Queen's garden trail and Navajo trail are wonderful. When you leave Zion early you could have a short visit of Bryce canyon and still make it to Page or even S.Grand canyon. It's a pity you wont see Monument valley.I would certainly shorten my stay in Sedona for Monument valley.Paul

I think I will go to Bryce I would probably drive from Zion to Bryce and same day back to Zion like Utahtea recommended. What we should see at Bryce and how scenic is the drive?
As I already said if you dont want to hike you can do the overlooks. The road runs on the rim of the canyon and you have several overlooks. If you do only the overlooks a visit of 2 hours will be about it.If you want to do the hikes I mentioned add 2 to 3 hours and wear walking shoes.Paul

Which way I should go to Page from Bryce and how long is the drive?
It's abour 416 miles. When you exit rte 12 out of the Canyon you take rte 89 all the way to Page.Paul
Tovarich posted the incorrect milage. It is approximately 146 miles, a typo I'm sure.
So do you all think that we should drive from Zion to Bryce and than back to Zion ,during our stay at Zion?Or should we go to Bryce on our way to Page? What makes more sense?
This Google map shows 290 miles.
