Do airlines change prices on certain days?

We are trying to get flights for late June from RSW or SRQ to EWR. I've tried Travelocity and the Jet Blue sites and they are not cheap and did not have a lot of seats available. I'm wondering if there are certain days/times that airlines change their prices so I can check when there are more options?

Well, the obvious thing to do is look at alternates to EWR. Airfares from second-tier airports, in my experience, tend to stay relatively constant, unless you luck out with a sale. Since JetBlue also flies to JFK and now LGA, you may save money by using an alternate and cabbing or training to Newark.

I seem to recall that Wednesday midnight is the usual time that airlines release their fare specials. But I could be recalling wrong.

You may be looking too soon. Sign up on Travelocity for their fare watcher and they will inform you when the fare drops. I think it may be Tuesday that the airlines check their loads.
Can't really agree with the second tier airports idea. The fares may stay constant but there are rarely sales.

I just plugged some dates into Travelocity and got a price of $168 to EWR. That's pretty dern cheap.

Have you looked on kayak.com? Continental ( Cont. AirTran), Delta and Jet Blue are the 3 that have nonstops from RSW. Cheapest fare I see is $177 on Continental for a weekend.

If you can fly into LGA, there will be more options.

Gretchen,
Was that price for a nonstop flight? The cheapest I had found was $242.

It was Continental and EWR is their hub. I don't know, but I don't even call $242 expensive. What price are you hoping for. It may not be realistic.

And yes, non-stop are about $188. It probably doesn't include taxes.

I guess June is going to be more than the $157 that my husband had paid for the same trip last week.

I did sign up for Travelocity's email fare watcher so thanks!
