Distances in Chicago

I've seen a map but I'm trying to get an idea of how spread out things are. For example, how far is the loop from the Streeter area? Is it like NYC? 20 blocks equal a mile. Sorry if I am making a fopah by asking how Chicago compares to NYC!

Streeterville is about 3 blocks north and 2 blocks east of the north end of The Loop.

In Chicago, North and south addresses begin at Madison Street and east/west addresses begin at State Street. For every 800 addresses you move from that intersection, you've gone one mile. There are either 50 or 100 numbers per block, so either 8 or 16 blocks to a mile.

Every eight blocks is one mile. If an address is 400 North Xxx Street it will be one mile to 1200 North Xxx Street. Hope that helps!

That does help! Thanks. Can't wait to go to Chicago for the first time.

On most of the north side the "blocks" are split, so it's 16 blocks to the mile. But regardless of where you are, the 800-numbers rule holds.
