Distance from LAX
 

How long will it take me to get from LAX to Beverly Hills. I know in every big city it depends on the traffic but can someone give me an idea. Would you suggest a taxi or renting a car for 1 day, actually I"ll be there for less than 10 hrs? Thanks.

I would never take a taxi in LA unless I knew for a fact it would be a very short distance. If you get caught in a bad traffic jam (and you probably will) the meter will run you into bankruptcy!! :-O

Rent a car.

Perfect logic from P_M...and it doesn't take much to create a bad traffic jam on major thoroughfares in Westwood or West LA.

There are also fixed price shuttles that are fairly reasonable and may be more practical than renting a car if you are not familiar with the area. Even if you are, parking can get to be pretty expensive pretty fast if you need to use pay lots.

I was pretty sure I was going to rent a car, even though I don't how to get to where I'm going. But how long does it take between LAX and Beverly Hills. Like I said I know with traffic it can be an additional hr. but average wise how long. Thanks.

Average, say, some traffic but going around 60 mph, then about half-hour, 40 minutes by the time you get off the freeway and navigate the streets. Taking a shuttle is a good suggestion.

At LAX you can get to your rental car on a ten-minute shuttle and then be in Beverly Hills about 30 minutes later, so allow about an hour and you should be fine. 7:30 to 9:30am weekdays, or 4:30pm to 7:30pm...would probably be the worst possible times to arrive and deal with traffic.

Weekends are a breeze, generally, compared to weekdays. And LAX to Beverly Hills is quite easily navigated.

30 minutes give or take. Take the $3.00 LAX Flyer to Westwood Village instead. Then, if you want to get to Beverly Hills, hope on the Big Blue Bus on Wilshire for 75 cents.

The 405 freeway (aka the San Diego freeway) is undergoing quite a lot of construction between LAX and the exits/entrances that are typical for Beverly Hills (Santa Monica Blvd, Wilshire Blvd etc.)

If your rental car company is one of the major ones, you may well find it faster to use surface streets to BH than in trying to navigate the freeways. Go north on Sepulveda Blvd. (adjacent to the airport) to La Tijera Blvd, north/east on La Tijera to La Cienega Blvd, which runs right up into the middle of Beverly Hills. I did it in the typhoon Friday evening and it took around 25 min, even with traffic lights out part of the time. It's a more direct route between BH and the airport, too. The rental car company will give you a map with access directions.

Thanks everyone for your advice/answers. Gardyloo, great idea and I think I'm going to do just that and avoid your dreaded freeways.

What time of the day will you be traveling from LAX and back to LAX? That will make a difference between 30 min and 90 mins commute. If you're not going on a weekday 7:30am-9:30am and 4:30pm-6:30pm, it should take 30 mins.

I would strongly recommend renting a car for such a short period of time. You may want to plan out exactly what you want to see and do. If you pick central LA, you can do Hollywood, West Hollywood, and Beverly Hills in a day.

If you decide not to rent a car, I would take a cab to Santa Monica if I were you for around $30-35. From there, you can take a bus to Venice Beach, and then go back to LAX from there.

I really depends on what "10 hours" actually means. Is that the time you have subtracting the time it will take to pick up bags if any and alloting 1.5 hrs for check-in and checking in bags for your onward flight?
