Disneyworld or Disneyland?

Has anyone been to both, and which do you prefer and why? I am not concerned with the price of airfare or hotels. I noticed however, that the price of admission varies greatly between the two. Is it worth the longer flight and price of admission to go to Disneyworld? Are the rides, etc. different? Thanks for any help!!!

Lucy, there is a huge difference between Disneyland and Disney World. In fact, Walt purposely bought up huge tracts of land in Florida for Disney World, because Disneyland was penned in by hotels, freeways, and residential areas. Disney World has Magic Kingdom (Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Main Street, etc.) Epcot (incredible technology and country showcase arranged around a lake), MGM Studios (entertainment-related), and now Wild Kingdom (live animals. There is also Pleasure Island (bars and restaurants), River Country and an incredible water park, and some other related attractions, including many incredible hotels in all price ranges. If I am not mistaken, Disneyland only has a Magic Kingdom-type place. I visited Disneyland years ago, but have returned with my children to Disney World several times. In fact, teens in LA go to Disneyland for "daytrips", like my kids go to the mall! In Disney World, it is a totally encompassing experience. Have fun!

AJ is right! Disneyworld is SO much bigger, and has so much more to DO! The last time I was there, our Disney Bus driver told us you could fit all of Disneyland into the Disneyworld Magic Kingdom's parking lot, and still have room to park 200 cars! It's worth the extra cost- you may be there for an entire week, adn never even leave the property, and STILL not see it all!

I agree with all of the above but still can't recommend one over the other - they are two entirely different experiences. We've been to Disney World a few times but then chose to go to Disneyland in CA (which IS just the Magic Kingdom portion essentially). It's a beautiful park and we chose to visit it plus Knotts Berry Farm, Universal Studios (which I prefer to the Florida version) and the west coast beaches. Please do your homework before you go - it's like comparing apples and oranges to choose one over the other. There's a book called the UNOFFICIAL guide to Disney World and Disneyland. I recommend it highly!
As mentioned by others, Disneyland is the same as the Magic Kingdom in Orlando. Most of the attractions in Orlando are available in Southern California if you include San Diego, but you will have to drive a lot more. If you are going in the summer the weather is a lot less humid in California than it is in Florida. If you go anytime other than the summer or a holiday period, such as Christmas week or around Easter, California wins hands down. When my daughter was younger we would go to Disneyland at least twice a year -- in the spring and fall on a weekday. Disneyland, other than in the summer caters to locals. You basically have the place to yourself during non peak periods on weekdays. When Indiana Jones was new, a few years ago, we could ride it over and over again without any delays. On the other hand, a friend went to Disneyland on a weekend last summer and rode only three rides. Most of the time he was in line. It is not an exaggeration to say that on popular rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, etc. the wait is at least an hour in the summer. And remember, you are standing in the sun much of the time. Because Orlando relies on tourists, the crowds are pretty constant. I have been there twice, both times outside the summer months and both times the crowds were formidable.
If you stay at one of the Disney hotels you are allowed into the parks an hour early on some days.
