DisneyWorld Bans Kids by Popular Request
 

from the Victoria & Albert Restaurant at the Grand Floridian hotel. There were so many requests for a place where adults could enjoy a sophisticated meal in an adult atmosphere that all kids have now ben banned from the restaurant.

The dress requirement - jacket for men and dress or pant suit for ladies still applies.

It was noted that this restaurant had the least number of kids traditionally, since few were able to enjoy a 2 or 2.5 hour meal.

Victoria & Albert's in the Grand Floridian is Disney's only restaurant with a AAA five-diamond rating. It is not a "family" restaurant. At $125+ per person, I would want it to be serene and peaceful. I have no problems with this decision.

Disney has great kids club. I don't know why anyone would have thought taking their child here was a good idea.

Well- apparently some people still did. So now V&A is for 18 plus only.

I am happy and sad.
I like to have a night without kids every once in a while.
However, we like to go as a family to nice restaurants sometimes (2 boys: 10 and 14) as we like to introduce them to new atmospheres, experiences, and food. This is subjective, but I think they are well behaved.
What happened to the "family-friendly" Disney resort??

I am not sad at all. There are still plenty of nice restaurants where people can take their kids. It is nice to have someplace that is strictly adults that isn't a bar.

The ban is only for children under 10 not 18, so Kellyhayes you will be fine. I don't see what the problem is there are like 100+ restaurants at Disney why not have one just for adults and older well behaved kids.

How on earth would a 10 year old boy and a 14 year old boy be able to appreciate a $125 dinner? No offense I just really want to know.

Actually the ban is on kids 10 and under. But anyone under 18 can enter only with their parents (to keep out groups of well-heeled teens on spring breaks).

And I agree - out of the hundreds of places Disney has to eat it seems that one of an adult meal isn't too much to ask.

(We stayed at the Grand Floridian once - and despite it being more upscale it still had a huge number of rug rats - the screaming toddler type, not the well-behaved older kids - throughout the hotel. My SIL and I went for afternoon tea and cut it short when 2 moms came in with their howling, drooling brood. (Kids that young need a NAP in the afternoon - not tea in an elegant restaurant.)

14? Are you kidding GoTravel? I just took my 14 yr old out for birthday and she ordered all the sushi for our entire party. She also is quite good in the kitchen. The only thing she doesn't have a palate for is wine (gosh, I hope)

That price may be a bit too high, but I was just commenting...

When we go to WDW we stay at the GF and have one dinner at V&A's. I am very happy about this. There are sooo many restaurants in WDW. If I am going to spend $600.00 for dinner for 2 at V&A's I really don't wish to hear a child so I am glad there is at least 1 place to go. There is a mis conception that Disney is just for children....it is not. I have had many dinners at Citrico's (which is right outside Victoria & Alberts) and witnessed some loud screaming children with parents who do nothing about it. Apparently they think they are in a "theme park" and think this is acceptable behavior.

I hope you don't think I was disagreeing. I think it's a fine thing to do as long as a place is up front about it. I think it would be a bad thing to have to ask someone to remove a child, but honestly, some parents are clueless when their kids misbehave or act normally and just cry.

I was really excited when I took my 17 and 13 yr old (then)girls to NYC last Spring. Not only did they enjoy upscale dining, they knew manners, dress, etc. I would never have taken them to some of those places when they were 3 and 7. I wish more parents would use better judgement when taking kids out...I think that's selfish.
