Disney’s New Ticket Pricing: Good or Bad?

I've just heard this news today. This is so sad for me, and my family :(

Yes. it was announced a couple of weeks ago. What is so sad? Avoid the busiest days and it won't have all that much effect. They are simply going to demand based pricing -- same as airlines, hotels, heck - even professional sports.

joestrutt02 Mar 8th, 2016 05:15 PM

Yeah, that is what mostly I will do. Thanks :)

NewbE Mar 8th, 2016 07:09 PM

Or you could go somewhere other than Disney.

joestrutt02 Mar 8th, 2016 07:17 PM

That is what I am exactly planning to do. Any suggestions? We are likely to visit San francisco, California and Los Angeles next week.

lynni Mar 8th, 2016 07:43 PM

Exploratorium,Museum of Natural History, Minterey Bay Aquarium, Huntington Gardens, one or more of the Missions, Griffith Park, so much to do... How much time do you have?

joestrutt02 Mar 8th, 2016 08:01 PM

We are planning to have a 2-week vacation. I hope this time will be enough for us to explore those places

marvelousmouse Mar 8th, 2016 08:10 PM

I don't see how a twenty percent increase would really hurt you...and it doesn't apply to multiple day tickets, so I don't think it's going to impact that many tourists.

But anyway, a week in LA and Week and SF would be perfect. Even if that's too long for the cities- California is massive and Disney, while fun, is not even on my top ten;)

joestrutt02 Mar 8th, 2016 08:11 PM

We are still thinking if we should go to Disney. It depends on my kids, maybe? They are my boss. hahaha!

fmpden Mar 9th, 2016 06:24 AM

We have had demand pricing on the ski slopes in Colorado for a few years. Probably a trend with many similar situations.

> I don't see how a twenty percent increase would really hurt you...and it doesn't apply to multiple day tickets, so I don't think it's going to impact that many tourists.

Just locals to their parks, who've never had and will never have a reason to stay for more than one day or evening.

Disneyland has always been expensive, even as kids it was the main obstacle to going for many of us.

NewbE Mar 9th, 2016 07:19 AM

Since you're going to LA and SF next week for two weeks, what plans have you already made? Disneyland is good, and it's up to you if you want to devote a day or two to it, but what about the rest of your time?

maitaitom Mar 9th, 2016 08:22 AM

Here are a myriad of things for you to do...

My kids loves Disney though. We've been to DisneyWorld in Florida and went on Disney cruise last year. :)

We will be driving from Vancouver and stay in San Francisco for 3 days.
In LA we have a bit of challenging itinerary as we are planning to do Disneyland, Universal Studios, Legoland and Six flags. All the fun stuff for kids. Hope we can spare a day to visit Lake Tahoe as well, i heard it is a beauty. :)

Thanks for this maitaitom! ;)

By the way, there is a great hike up from the Fern Dell grotto to Griffith Observatory if you like hiking. Not overly strenuous (we do it with our corgis, and they have pretty short legs). It's about a 3 1/2 mile loop, plus you can take a breather at the top and go to the observatory, which is free (although you do have to pay to see the movie...which is worthwhile).

Caylee Mar 9th, 2016 06:47 PM

get a multi day pass instead. :)

Shar Mar 9th, 2016 09:51 PM

KNOTTS BERRY FARM is a blast if you are looking for a place with rides, etc. I'd do that instead of Disneyland - shorter lines too

Michael Mar 11th, 2016 02:26 PM

In L.A. the Museum of Jurassic Technology. Here's a sample of what there is to see: http://www.mjt.org/exhibits/hagop/hagop2.html

joestrutt02 Mar 13th, 2016 04:19 AM

That's nice :) thanks for the recommendation.

hanayoridango Mar 14th, 2016 04:11 PM

Lots of exciting changes happening over there, very different park from when I was a kid (and tickets were something like $40). If it is a must see destination for you, you have no choice but to pay. It's going to once in your life, better to do it now rather than later (when tickets are even higher).

But as others suggested, there are lots of other things to do around here and many destinations that can be just as life changing.

joestrutt02 Mar 16th, 2016 09:36 PM

We're on our way to SF now, any other recommendations that we can check there?

Kailani Mar 17th, 2016 09:50 AM

Yes, the Disney Museum! I haven't been but I've been wanting to! I've heard it's good. http://waltdisney.org/ Try Goldstar for discounted sightseeing events.

The new Exploratorium is wonderful. http://www.exploratorium.edu/visit/c...oOcxoC_eHw_wcB

Musée Mecanique is lots of fun. http://museemecaniquesf.com/

There are a lot of fun places along the bay to walk along or have bike rides or pose for pictures with wooden pirates. Maritime Park with its old ships and nature. http://www.nps.gov/safr/index.htm

Have an Irish Coffee at Buena Vista. Ride the cable car.

Explore Golden Gate Park. There is a field of buffalo, and Stow Lake, where you can rent paddle boats.

Yerba Buena Center has a carousel and kid's museum. Fort Mason is interesting.

I also like to explore North Beach with its Beat and Italian history and yummy food. Chinatown for similar visually stimulating and fun to explore.

And, a baseball game! Or a tour of the stadium on non game days, which it will be although the exhibition games are starting soon.

Maybe post a new SF topic, cause I just happened to be looking for Disney.

Kailani Mar 17th, 2016 09:52 AM

I actually wanted to say that I think Disney should limit the number of people attending the park to a reasonable & comfortable number, like when you go to a theater, everyone has a seat.

I know this will never happen, but if I could convince the ghost of Walt Disney to do this, I would.

maitaitom Mar 17th, 2016 12:28 PM

"Have an Irish Coffee at Buena Vista."

They also have the best Ramos fizz on the planet!

The Randall Museum which has an extensive model train setup in the basement.

> I actually wanted to say that I think Disney should limit the number of people attending the park to a reasonable & comfortable number, like when you go to a theater, everyone has a seat.

I think legally, due to fire laws, total daily admittance to Disneyland is limited. But you'd never know it especially during summer months.

For a long time Disneyland made itself available for private parties during weeknights in the off-season months, and I really wish they'd bring those events back too. All rides, restaurants etc were available with either no or virtually no lines at all.

joestrutt02 Mar 18th, 2016 05:24 PM

Thanks for all of your recommendations. We will try to check all your recommendations. We are actually having a hard time checking all of that due to limited time issue. At this time, we've been to Palace of fine arts museum, golden gate bridge and fisherman's wharf. Tiring, but we're having a lot of fun.
