Disney's Beach Club vs. Yacht Club

Does anyone know the differences between the Beach Club vs. the Yacht Club. Is one better than the other? How about with kids? I heard the Yacht Club is used for a lot of conventions, but I stayed there with the kids two years ago and it was great. Also, does anyone suggest another Disney resort which they like better? One other question - when you get to Orlando airport, is there any other way to get to the Disney hotels other than the Mears transports. We have had to wait for an hour for them and then we are always the last hotel they drop off. Any suggestions would be so helpful. Thanks.

We just got back from a week at the yacht club with our 2 sons, both in their 20's and our 5 year old granddaughter. We had stayed at the beach club 2 years ago with just the 2 sons. I personally enjoyed the convenience of walking right over the bridge to Epcot from the beach club the last time. This time we booked concierge level rooms at the yacht and were disappointed. The concierge level at the Polynesian is wonderful. Always open, friendly service, a huge room. The yacht club lounge was very small, very controlled, doled out snacks and they really couldn't handle the crowds. There were 2 conventions there while we were there but it was not as noisy as the nightly clambakes at the beach club! The yacht club is more convenient to the boats to MGM and Epcot but the beach club is closer to walk to the restaurants at the Boardwalk. Over the past 20 years, we've stayed in just about all of the resorts at WDW. If you're going to spend a lot of time at the MK then the Polynesian or Contemporary(more convenient in my opinion)are good. I didn't care for the Grand Floridian as much as I thought I would. The beach club would be my next choice or even the new Boardwalk Inn or Villas as these are right across the lagoon from the yacht & beach. Enjoy!

I forgot to mention. You can take a cab to get there quicker. It's a $34 ride one-way and if there are a few of you in the party it's not that much more expensive than Mears and you get to your hotel in less than 25 minutes.

There is not much difference between the two hotels, although we give the edge to the Beach Club.It seems to have beter family restaurants. The swimming pool, which they share,is the best pool of any hotel that we have stayed. It is huged and meandering! It has a great water slide too!. Look into DIXIE LANDINGS our second favorite. Do yourself a favor RENT A CAR FROM THE AIRPORT. The wait for buses within DW can be tedious. HAVE FUN!!

I CAN'T AFFORD TO STAY AT EITHER, BUT I DO HAVE
FRIENDS THAT STAY AT THE BEACH CLUB. ONE SET OF
FRIENDS GOES TWICE A YEAR AND THE OTHER SET JUST ONCE A YEAR.

There is another transportation company at the airport other than Mears. On our last three trips we found the other company to be less expensive than Mears and never had to wait. When we went in November we ended up with a driver and a Lincoln Continental for our family of two adults and two children. It was less expensive than the shuttle busses and we were driven directly to our hotel!
