Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

An accident on Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster left a 22-year-old man dead and 10 other riders injured.

It seems a bit odd that the accident just happen to occur in a dark tunnel part of the ride. Call me pessimistic, but I wouldn't be surprised if the man who died committed suicide by screwing up the train, and in the process injured innocent bystanders.

indytravel: I thought the very same thing.

How would he have done that?

A lady in Santa Claus, IN killed herself a few weeks ago. She managed to unfasten the safety harness in an upside-down roller coaster. When she hit the top of the loop she fell out and was killed. It was ruled a suicide.

Those protection devices work really well for people who want to be protected. If you're intent on foiling the safety devices, then there's no limit to what you can do.

Off the top of my head, keep your back arched so the safety harness doesn't fit tightly, then you can unfasten the belt and wiggle your way out. Maybe you'd think it would be fun to lean over and disconnect the train cars and make the news. Of course, when you make the news as a corpse, maybe it's not really so fun.
