One more tip: if you are going to Disneyworld, the Disney Marketplace has a Legoland that has the most fun fountain for kids to play in. There is a larger fountain by the other end of the Marketplace, but the one at Legoland has smaller fountains and is better for toddlers.

Jim:
Take some time to re-read my original post.
Pathetc is doing a "drive-by" on a thread only to attack posters.
BTW you forgot to contribute constructively to Jane's question.

Peace
Oaktown

I think Disney can be a great family vacation if you go into it with realistic expectations. You know your child and will plan your day accordingly. We have been to Disney World several times and loved it. We were in California and decided to try Disney Land last August (we are from Boston) it was much more congested so that was very hard to adjust to but once we regrouped we had a wonderful time. Our children were 4, 9 and 11. It was VERY hot the days we were there- bring lots of juice boxes and bottled water. it was also very CROWDED- our first day the line for Dumbo was 2 hours long!!!The lines everywhere were horrendous and we were told they had record visitors that day. we were at the park from 3pm-midnight and worked hard to see what we did.The fireworks were a highlight of our trip- get a spot early. The next day we were at the gate before the park opened and we did all the fantasyland rides we wanted to several times before the crowds became overwhelming. Then we went to the character buffet breakfast on Main Street and we met all of the characters which my kids loved!!That also was one of the best parts of our trip. So, my tips are go early, go with a plan,go to the character breakfat and bring plenty of drinks, sunblock and hats! Enjoy it for the magical family place it can be.

I remember when my first child was born and I made two promises to that child, I would take her to Disneyland/World and send her to college. I have three children now and they have been to DisneyLand or World five times. I know I won't be able to get my kids through college five times. But, every moment of my kids Disney experiences was like seeing it for the first time through their eyes. If you are expecting a Disney trip through the eyes of a two year old, then that's what you'll have. But, if your children are younger and not in school yet, I would suggest going when most cannot. When my kids where in grade school, we took them out of school to go "off season". We had few or no lines, no crowds, and had time to relax. Now that my kids are older it's hard to take them out of middle and high school. So if your two year old is your only child, wait till the other kids are in school, and the lines go down. Get a cheap umbrella stroller, (one that you won't miss if it's stollen), it collapes nicely so you can take it on buses, trams and boats. Carry juice boxes, and take it slow. The first time we went we took Gramma and Grandpa, they babysat at night while we did the adult things. I remember my kids wanted to see story time with Cinderella, they sat mesmorized while I shopped. And everynight they fell asleep on the tram or bus ride "home", and we had to carry them to bed. Enjoy!

First let me say that I love Disneyworld, I went the year it opened when I was 13 and have been many times since. When my children were 2 and 5 we took them for the first time. The 5 year old was terrified of just about every attraction. He kept asking when we could go back to the pool at the hotel. The 2 year old was happy enough, until he became very listless and eventually ill. We went in June but it was 95 degrees and we only stayed in the park until 12:30. I ended up wasting 6 hours finding, driving and waiting at a "hospital" which seemed more like a third world clinic. Even though I made him drink lots of juice he had become dehydrated so be careful! My 5 year old refused to go back to the Theme parks so we spent the rest of the trip at Typhoon Lagoon, which both children found IMMENSELY more enjoyable than the parks! Now I know every child is different, but my 2 year old could have been anywhere while we were in the Magic Kingdom and been just as happy, including a shopping cart. If the trip is for your child, I recommend waiting until he or she is old enough to appreciate it. We went back when the boys were 6 and 9 and it was a completely different experience. Much more enjoyable! It is far too expensive a trip to go if your doing it for your child. Go to a resort with a nice pool and beach. In my opinion, a much better choice for a family with a 2 year old. However, if the trip is for you and your husband, then by all means go and heed the advice of previous posters. Take it slow, rest, go back for a nap and drink lots of liquids. Your child will probably be able to tolerate Disney under those circumstances.

Hey folks, this has to be the most hotly debated subjects (young ages to Disney) on this lounge. We've been scammed and trolled before by insincere posters who enjoy the banter. Do a search and you will find many similar topics, all with the same theme. It makes for a fun read, especially if you don't care if it is real or fake.

If this thread goes the way others have gone, we will have some Disney-corporate bashing (Eisner is evil and so is all of Disney); Declarations that Disney movies are violent and bad for children; Character assassination (more, I should say) against specific posters on not only the way they rear their kids but on how they reply online; a few constructive and sincere answers to the question, "wondered what the highlights would be for a two year old."; A few people wishing this whole thread would end; and some people who have to get the last word in and keep the post alive.

Did I miss anything?

Yep. You missed the guy who has to point it all out to us because we're not bright enough to see it for ourselves!
