disney world with 8 yr old girl
can someone give me a rough estimate of the cost of flying from ny (rt)and staying pretty close to the park. I am not a millionaire and our budget is limited. we wanted to stay over a weekend in jan or feb. need to know what park will cost. thanks in advance. <BR>

humblejohn,<BR><BR>check out wkwig.com which has all kinds of info going to disney world. we got a great deal staying in the park (all stars resort) in january a few years back. we didn't need to rent a car, so there's another possible cost savings for you. crowds are at their lowest in jan/feb.<BR><BR>surely you can open up a newspaper and get an idea of what it'll cost to fly from ny. air tran is a cheapie which flys into orlando.<BR><BR>good luck.

I also like Disney, and the fare vary from week to week. Start doing your own research via cheaptickets.com orbitz.com or expedia.com for perhaps a package deal. This may be the best way to go.

follow the other posters advice and also try this web site which provides lots of info-www.mousesavers.com. Park entrances are @50/day for adults. I think 8 years old qualifies for a lower admission price. If you're just going for a few days, you should consider staying on a Disney property. It will cost a little more than staying off the properties, but you wont need to rent a car and the convenience factor will be worth it. there are limo services from the airport which will make a quick stop at a grocery store on the way to your hotel so you can stock up on bottled water, snack food, etc. to save further. Have fun. Your daughter is at a perfect age for this trip.

Plane tickets will probably be in the neighborhood of $200 each, roundtrip. This varies of course, and you probably need to book asap for January. A moderate (but clean) motel room in Orlando can be in the $40 range, even less if you use Priceline.

Forgot to add that a one day adult ticket to WDW is in the $50 range. Multiday passes allow you to park hop, but if you are only going for a weekend and don't have a lot of cash, they may mot be worth the outlay. (Unused days on the parkhopper passes don't expire though.)

Humblejohn,<BR>In Oct. we flew round trip from Columbus to Orlando for $146pp. We stayed off property and used the hotel shuttle which was very convenient, no need for a rental car. We only spent 3 days at the parks and used the 3 day Park Hopper Plus Pass which we purchased thru a site we found by using www.mousesavers.com. We paid $630 for the Passes for four people (2 adults, 2 children). I think all total we spent around $1500.

Currently planning a trip to WDWthis FEb so have a bit of info to share. <BR><BR>1. Go before Feb 13 and save on rooms on site. The value resorts are around $60 night. Check out mousesavers to find out the "code" for the discount.<BR><BR>2. Book a room only. Usually works out cheaper than a package.<BR><BR>3. Do not buy Length of Stay passes unless you are sure you will use the parks from the minute you arrive until the minute you go home. If you arrive at 2:30 in the afternoon you have to ask yourself if it is worth nearly $100 for you to be in a park until closing. Keep in mind that some of the Disney parks close relatively early during "off peak" times. You may find that there is enough non-park stuff that you want to do to keep you busy for the afternoon. Like a character meal or Downtown Disney or renting bikes etc. All of which will cost less than passes for the parks.<BR><BR>4.There is a new character dinner at the Grand Floridian that was just announced yesterday. The cost is 24.99 per adult and 10.99 for kids for a prime rib buffet. The characters are Cinderella, Prince Charming, Fairy Godmother, two of the mice, the step sisters and the stepmother (but you won't see all of them at the same dinner most likely). REservations are easy to get right now because its still relatively unknown. If you are interested book now. In terms of value, the breakfast at Cinderella's Castle is 19.99 for an adult and its just eggs bacon and fruit. This dinner seems like a better value.<BR><BR>It might work out for you to fly in Friday afternoon, go to a character dinner and then hit the parks on Saturday and Sunday. You will only need two one day passes if that is your schedule. One day passes don't allow you to hop from park to park which is a disadvantage. But if money is tight it might work out.<BR><BR>Have a great time however you chose to do this trip.

Humblejohn, love your name! AISI, if you can at all possibly visit Disney during the school week you will have a much better experience. Easier access to all the attractions by far, and less crowded. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks for the tip on the Grand Floridian character buffet. It seems like a great deal and a good excuse to check out the Grand Floridian. We're going in February and I called and reserved already.<BR><BR>Very helpful!

Heres a site that can help with most of your planning. The All Star Resorts usually run around $60-70. When they run specials you can get the rooms for as low as $49.<BR><BR>If you are in the medical field or a teacher (other occupations may also apply) you can get a room at the Swan or Dolphin for $125 a night. It's pricey but smack dab in the middle of all the parks & there is a boat to take you to EPCOT & MGM.<BR><BR>Enjoy your trip!<BR><BR>http://www.wdwig.com/faq_hot.htm
