Disney with grand children--need advice
 

We have two granddaughters(ages 5 and 9), and we are trying to decide whether to take them to Disneyworld this October or April next year. Do you think the younger one is too young? Would there be a lot of rides that she couldn't do? She is quite small for her age-still wears 4t clothes.I don't know if we wait many more years whether I will have the energy to go. Any opinions?

Definitely go for it. She is not too small. There are some rides she may not be able to do (height requirements) but I don't see why that should deter you since the majority of them are great for everyone.Plus she is at the age where she will still enjoy the princess stories and the characters walking around at the Magic Kingdom and all the fantasy land rides. Everyone will love the fireworks at Epcot. You should pick up a book called DisneyWorld with Kids or something similar. I found it helpful in planning our days there. I would go in Oct vs April. You will face lots of spring vacation crowds in April.

Bonnie, life is short, do it now.Start a walking program so that you'll have lots of energy. Take them in Oct- even if they miss a few days of school- it won't matter. Less crowded and a LOT nicer. Your 5 yr old will find lots to do and you and Grandpa can split up to ride with 9 yr old. Go to www.disboards for advice and pick up a Disney book such as Birnbaum as well.

I'd say, from my experience with kids @ Disney, that age 5 is OK. Sure, there will be some things she won't do, but all in all she'll enjoy it. It gets a little ridiculous when you see some parents dragging around two- and three-year-olds who''ll never remember the experience anyway. But 5 should be all right.

I can still remember going to disneyland at 2 years, 10 months. My sister had just been born so Grandma took us 3 older siblings to Disneyland. I remember how fabulous the submarine ride was, and was so dissappointed 12 years later when I rode it again. I quite clearly remember the teacups, and the parrot show as well. My youngest daughter went as a 3 year old, and was so enamored with Tigger that at 15, she is planning to be a vet. The bottom line is that some little ones do well at theme parks, some don't. You are wise to choose a quiet time. i'd go in October --better weather, less chance of spring break crowds
