Disney Vacation Club - Worth it??
I know this has been asked, but is the timeshare concept with Disney worth the cost, We try to go to Disney for 4-5 nights each year. Yes we love the mouse!!! WE go off season, usually November or January, so you can get some pretty good deals, also go to Vero every other year (inlaws) live there. We are a family of four. I know the club is definately worth it if you go for longer periods of time, I was thinking of buying resale, but does anyone know of the Disney Buy Back rate??? I think the current rates from DVC are 75-80 per point, but if I can get 55-60 per point, maybe it is cost effective. I have browsed all the websites, and an a TUg member (trying to sell a vistana timeshare) but just can't convice my self that the DVC is worth it. Thanks for any input. kim

I don't know if I can answer your question.

We stayed at DVC on an RCI excahnge during the few months it was listed with the company. I think it was the best unit we've ever stayed in, having exchanged to Gold Crown units in Europe, Hawai and Whistler.

The one bedroom was 1400 square feet with king bed, whirlpool and actual laundry room. Can't ask for much more.

Does Disney have a mesage board for members where you could look for a resale?

Good luck!!
Tania

Try www.disboards.com there are message boards all about DVC and renting/buying points.

Don't know how you can define"worth it" but we have 150 pts at Old Key West andhave found it really works out for us because we can go off season/weekdays when points usage is lowest and we get over 15 nights a year-have used all the properties and they are all very nice (we only need the studios so we get the max value that way) It is nice to be on property at Disney, the quality and upkeep are first rate and you can definitely save by having at least breakfast/snacks and light meals in the room. The Hilton Head place is great for bike riding. Our least favorite is Vero because we prefer the Gulf Coast beaches but if you have to go to Vero anyway it's a nice place to stay as Vero doesn't have much.
I don't think it be as good a value if you have to use weekend points as they are a lot higher-but we seem to get more out of DVC than people we know with other "timeshares" because we are not locked into a week at a time and can do a few days at a time

Timeshares rank right up there with the dumbest things to spend your money on. Why anyone would ever, ever lock themselves into a vacation destination is beyond me. D-U-M-B!!!!

We don't use it for a primary vacation-just for a "getaway" place for a few days several times throughout the year (we live within 125 miles of DW)-I do agree -would never lock myself into using it as my vacation
