Discount theater tickets for 42nd Street musical

Is it possible to get discount tickets to the musical 42nd Street? I want to go the evening of Oct. 1 and when I look at Ticketmaster.com or Telecharge.com it has the tickets for the Orchestra section (which is where I want) for $100.00 plus tax and service charges. If I wait until I arrive (Sept. 28) what are my chances of getting discount tickets for good seats for that musical? Thanks.

When I was in NYC this past June, 42nd Street was available virtully everyday at half price (same day) from TKTS. You can go to the visitors center opposite the TKTS office (next to McDonalds) and see if they have discount tickets that you can take to the box office in advance for a discount.

You can check to see which shows were offered at the TKTS booth on the previous day by going to

http://newyork.citysearch.com/feature/34843/

42nd ST was available on JUly 9 at a 50% discount.

There's no guarantee that half-price tickets will be available. Late September/early October can be a busy time for the theater. However, since October 1 is a Tuesday night, which is, relatively speaking, a slow theater night, you may stand a good chance, if you are willing to wait in line at the TKTS booth.

check (and register for free) at these websites: www.hitshowclub.com (same as the twofers you pick up at visitors center), www.theatermania.com, www.playbill.com. All offer discounts for advance sales (usually a few weeks in advance, not months). I would think you can get at least 25% off 42nd st just about any time (it's been that way for quite a while. that's what I got back in Jan., although I still didn't think the show was worth the price). Through these sites, we've recently purchased discount tickets (about 30-50% off) for Cabaret, Proof, and Full Monty. All decent seats. These sites offer other discounts as well (comedy clubs, restaurants, etc.).
