dis/like Disneyland hotels?

For those of you who stayed in the Disneyland hotels, what did you like or dislike about them? What time of year did you stay in one of the hotels? Any suggestions? I'm a 16 yo girl that's going with siblings/friends in their mid-twenties.

I have only stayed at the main Disneyland hotel and that was some time ago. We felt then that its only redeeming feature was its location and that it was very expensive for a fairly ordinary hotel.

The new hotel in the California Adventure area, however, looks quite nice and I would be tempted to consider it.

We stayed in what was a few years ago the annex to the Disneyland Hotel, and we LOVED the pool!

I like not only the location (if you are truly right on the property) but also the service which are hardly "ordinary."

People gripe about staying on the Disney property because it is "so expensive" and i agree it isn't cheap, but obviously for many people it is more than worth it.

We stayed at the Howard Johnsons in May. Loved the location, about a 10 minute walk to the front gate and it was significantly cheaper than one of the Disney Properties. The property was nicely landscaped and has a couple of pools. On the walk to Disney you pass a couple of places for breakfast, Mimis, McDonalds and IHOP. We had breakfast before hitting the park. A couple of downsides, it is near the freeway so you there is road noise, and it is REALLY loud in some rooms. The other was that our bed was not the most comfortable in the world, but after a day walking around Disneyland it did not seem to matter.

The only place we stay is at the Paradise Pier Hotel (alos a Disney property). You have access to the great Disneyland Hotel pool, the service is great and the rooms are very clean. I am not sure if they still do this, but if you stayed there, you also were allowed to enter Calif. Adventure earlier than the rest of the crowd and through an entrance only reserved for hotel guests.

People gripe about the price of the properties. Yes, you can find cheaper places to stay but the prices for Disney properties will be all over the map, with the Grand Californian Hotel leading the way. But at the end of the day, it is so very worth it. You are so close to everything and truly feel like you are at a resort. You will not get that experience at some nearby motel. It is so nice to break up the day at the park by lounging around the pool, grabbing a relaxing lunch and walking around Downtown Disney before heading back into the madness!

We loved the Disneyland Hotel. All three hotels are either relatively new or recently remodeled. They are all so convenient to the parks. You can walk everywhere. Check mousesavers.com for all available discounts.
