Directions SOL to Brooklyn
I'm having an awful time with Hopstop. Can someone please help me with subway directions from Battery Park (after viewing the SOL) to Brooklyn? I'm thinking of either taking the subway or a water taxi, and then walking back across the Brooklyn Bridge. Thank you!

You don't explain what the problem is. The Water Taxi is a good option if it's running at the time you're visiting (it changes schedule as the weather gets colder). Their website is nywatertaxi.com They have a stop near Battery park and you'd then want to go to their Fulton St. Brooklyn stop.
A regular taxi would also not be a bad option since you're already downtown, the price wouldn't be too bad. Your third option is to walk to Bowling Green and take the 5 train uptown 2 stops to Fulton St. and change for the A or C to High St. Brooklyn. Are you looking at the subway map? http://www.mta.nyc.ny.us/nyct/maps/submap.htm |
Thank you. I couldn't figure out which subway line to take. I've looked at that map but for the life of me couldn't figure out where in Brooklyn I needed to disembark. I sure appreciate your help. (Hopstop.com didn't recognize the addresses I put in for Grimaldi's and other places I'd heard about.)

featherwatcher - mclaurie's directions are perfect. However, I don't know when you are coming to NYC. I run on the pier where the water taxi comes in and I saw a sign that service is ending for the season by the end of this month, I believe. Plus there has been a lot of weekend construction work on the subway lately. For example, there was no Brooklyn bound service from Fulton St in Manhattan on the A or C this weekend. You can check www.mta.info shortly before your trip - click on Service Advisories - NYC Transit near the top of the page to find out what work will be possibly affecting your route.

Thank you, it's good to know what to check on before my trip. BTW, I'm going next weekend (14-17th, can't wait!).

Feather,
There is going to be a huge art festival in Brooklyn between the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges next weekend. Thousands of people are expected, so Grimaldi's, Jacques Torres and the Ice Cream Factory will likely be more mobbed than usual. Streets throughout the 'hood will be closed and there will be lots of exhibits & performances - in the streets, studios (all open to the public for the wkend) and in Brooklyn Bridge Park too. If you're looking for something "different" come check it out before crossing back over the bridge! |
suzanne - I am your neighbor - up the hill in Downtown Brooklyn - what art festival is that? I haven't seen any signs and I ran down there today.
Thanks, Mara ps I missed TAR in the park as well along with U2.... |
Mara-
Hi neighbor! It's the Annual DUMBO Art Under the Bridge Festival. I see the signs everywhere (shirtless guy in pj bottoms with a big orange dot over his face). If you stop in to one of the restaurants down there, you can pick up a schedule. Some of the movies, music and dance programs require tickets, but all the art viewing is free. http://www.dumboartscenter.org/festi...05/events.html |
Thanks, suzanne, I guess I was running so fast I missed the signs :)
