Dinner in Salt Lake
 

My wife and I will be spending 2 days in Salt Lake this week and need recommendations for 2 dinners and one lunch and we really would like to sample some quality restaurants the city has to offer. We will have a car and can drive anywhere within 10 to 15 minutes of downtown. Any ideas? Anyone recommending Rio Grande or PF Changs will be ignored. Thanks!

For good sushi, go to Ichiban Sushi...it is in a cool old church of some sort.

Oh, another one of my favorites, Cafe Trio, for lunch or dinner.

If you want a drink or wine, make sure you check in advance. Unless things have changed in the past few years -- we went to what was a highly recommended and nice restaurant and were surprised that they served absolutely no alcohol. I think a few others were doing a thing where you had to pay a dollar or something to become a "member" to have a drink.

Most restaurants serve wine (by the bottle or glass)and beer.

You can also bring in your own bottle of wine, as long as it was purchased IN Utah and has a state tax sticker on it. The restaurant will charge you a "corkage" fee to open it. Fee varies greatly from restaurant to restaurant, sometimes no charge.

"Private Clubs" serve liquor (mixed bar drinks). Private Clubs require a "membership". Usually you can buy a "temporary membership" for less than the year membership. Think of it as a cover charge.

At some of the ski resorts, your "temp membership" for their resort-owned bars and restaurants is included in your lodging cost.

The only inconvenience in UT liquor laws comes in with the State Liquor stores being closed on Sundays and holidays. You should see how busy they are before holidays!

It's easy to drink in UT - I do it all the time!

The Red Iguana downdown is a great Mexican restaurant that has been in SLC for a long time. Also, out in Holladay is the best garlic cheeseburger you will ever have, stop in at the Cottom Bottom for a draft beer (coldest ever) and burger. Up Milcreek canyon...beautiful drive (my favorite canyon) try Log Haven.
