Dinner in Columbia, S.C.

Next Sunday I'll be stopping to spend a night with my long time friend in Columbia who is scenic designer for a theatre there. He'll be working all day, but I want to take him out to dinner -- he rarely goes out except fast food. We've eaten at Hennessey's and the usual places at 5 points many times, but want to do something different. He lives just a little way south of Five Points right off Devine.

Any ideas? We'll want to be casual and not looking for a culinary achievement, just something good, different for him, and nice.

When I'm in town visiting family, I always enjoy Miyo's:

Reliably good, though I've only ever been to the location at Columbiana. Might be a good choice for you.

Hi NeoPatrick,
Glad you're visiting columbia.Your friend wouldn't be John at the Trustus would it? If you like Italian my new favorite restaurant is Pasta Fresca. They make their own pasta, everything is very fresh. They have the best bruschetta I've ever had. It's a Mom & Pop type place, if you don't want a chain go there. It's on the corner of Forest Drive and Beltline. Miyo's is right down the street and I like the place also, BoneFish a seafood restaurant it's also right down the street if you want a chain. If you haven't tried Mr. Friendly's in 5 points I would consider going there, not sure if it's open on Sunday's. If you like Thai food I would recomend Baan Sawan. It's on devine street across the strret from Jake's. Hope this helps

Nope, it's Randy who replaced his partner Walter (my long time designer mentor) who died two years ago. He's at Workshop Theatre.

Thanks for all these suggestions. It gives me something to work on.

Its not highbrow, but I like California Dreaming. I like the renovated depot building and it is good for people watching.

I also love Melo Mushroom for pizza and sandwiches.
