Dinner Cruise down San Antonio River?
My husband and I are planning a trip to San Antonio to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We are staying on the Riverwalk. I am considering a dinner cruise down the river but can't find much info. Any ideas? Also, any other ideas to make our trip special would be greatly appreciated!

I have been to San Antonio several times, loved it, ate well, took a river cruise, butt I didn't take a river _dinner_ cruise, so I can't respond.
The Alamo is a must see, the Mission outside town is interesting, and the historic Menger is a hotel downtown where Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders stayed. Go there girls the bar and dinner even if you don't stay there.

Are there dinner cruises? There's the river walk but it's not big enough for a boat large enough to be a dinner cruise I would think.
Why don't you choose a restaurant that has a view of the river? And then do a cruise.

The river walk is really a U shape canal off of the San Antonio river. And it is big enough for dinner cruises. The river boats are kind of like large barges. And there are dinner boats that slowly cruises the area of the river walk. Forgot to add earlier, go to the TI near the Alamo for complete info on using the bus to tour the missions. It is cheap and easy to do.

Suggest you rethink your river barge dinner. First, it is not a romantic couple thing as you share the boat with a couple dozen other people. Plus, the food is usually mediocre at best. http://riverrestaurants.com/san-anto...-boat-tickets/
If you are really stuck on the idea of dinner for two on a barge, call your hotel concierge or one of the better restaurants and tell them, and they will arrange it - for a rather steep price. Alternatively, for a nice romantic meal on the Riverwalk, there are some good places - Bella on the River probably top of that list, but be sure to reserve. Not cheap, but not outrageous and you definitely get what you pay for here. http://www.bellaontheriver.com/
If Bella is full up, The Fig Tree http://dine.figtreerestaurant.com/ is a great alternative.
Other options that would fit your bill for a special romantic dinner include Biga on the Banks http://biga.com/ which is consistently good. Las Canarias in the La Mansion hotel is excellent. Boudro's is always great, a little more casual. The Las Ramblas restaurant in hotel Contessa recently updated their menu, in the past was reliably good. Restaurant Gwendolyn is the place to go for uber trendy menu with impeccable service, but be prepared to drop at least a few hundred for dinner and drinks.
Also think about strolling the scenic Riverwalk for the visuals but heading upstream along the museum reach section of the Riverwalk to eat at one of the several good options at the Pearl. http://atpearl.com/food/restaurants
Yes, you can do the missions (and other cool cultural things) without a car. The local bus operator, Via, has introduced special cultural routes. At $2.75 for an all day pass, it's a great bargain. http://www.viainfo.net/BusService/VivaMain.aspx
@fmpden - that U shaped canal has expanded quite a bit!

Thank you for your ideas and info! Sounds like a dinner cruise isn't that great so will look into one of the restaurants @Seamus listed! And, I'll definitely look up the VIA bus routes too!
