Dining on the Gulf in Key West
I will be staying at the Hyatt on Front St. for my anniversary in February. I would like to find a special restaurant in the area, preferablly with a gulfview, that would be good for our anniversary dinner, any suggestions?

As far as I'm concerned, one place only meets your requirements and it is arguably the best in Key West.
Louie's Backyard...pretty Victorian house overlooking the water, elegant ambiance...just right for your special night. LMF |
oops....too fast here's a link to the restaurant's website. It's a pretty lame website (looks like the internet about 5 years ago) but the restaurant is not.

I agree that Louie's is wonderful, but it's not near the Hyatt and it's on the Atlantic rather than the Gulf. Your options for dining on the Gulf are unfortunately very limited. The Ocean Key Resort has a restaurant that's pretty but the food isn't good. There are several other hotels nearby that have restaurants, but I doubt you'd want hotel food on such a special occasion. The A&B Lobster House is just at the end of Front Street and has very good food, but it overlooks a marina rather than the Gulf.
I'm inclined to agree that Louie's would be the best choice if you don't mind taking a cab (they're very easy to get in Key West). |
I agree with Louie's backyard for a special dinner. We ate on the outside deck overlooking the water-very nice setting. Service and food were wonderful.

Most people don't know enough to differentiate from the strait side and the sort of Gulf side. (more like Florida Bay) Key West doesn't face the ocean either. Nit picking aside, the restaurants at Gulf end of Duval as pretty crummy.
Tourists in SW Florida are always looking for an ocean view, to which we have to say, no way. The sun is still setting pretty far south on the horizon in February. Casa Marina hotel has Flagler's. This historic hotel faces south to the Florida Strait. I have no idea how the food is there now. Key West is tiny. I don't think of distance as any impediment there. Restaurants come and go in Key West. Louie's has been able to stand the test of time there. LMF |
I also agree with Louie's Backyard. We cannot wait to return there for our third time in January. The cab fare is not expensive. Have a wonderful time!

If you're in the market for a waterside place to eat for breakfast or lunch, the Hilton has a nice buffet right on the water at Mallory Square.

Louie's all the way! Fantastic day or night.

take the ferry/taxi boat to Sunset Key and dine al fresco on the beach...it's 5 min. ride, great views and great food....very romantic. Your Hotel can make arrangements.
