Dining in Worcester, Ma area

My son is flying to the Worcester area to surprize his lady friend over thanksgiving holidays. She is attending school in area. He is going to ask the "big question" and would like to take her to some nice places to eat. Romantic but on a budget-both are still in college and finishing this year, but still need pocket book friendly place. He will be up there for 7days(that is if she says yes),so maybe some places around area and Boston if you know any.
thanks as always

I am not familiar with restaurants in the Worcester area, (except for years growing up having an annual relatives lunch or brunch at the Whistling Swan in Strubridge) - but he could check on the following for menus, prices, reservation openings and user reviews:

www.opentable.com

www.chowhound.com

www.menupages.com

If he wants to pop the question in Boston, there are a zillion possibilies. Some romantic restaurants all over the city - if you could give a ballpark for this nights dinner, if he wants to go into Boston for it, like are we talking $100 a couple or $60, that would help - budget is different to everyone -

He could also think of popping the question at a beautiful spot like while sitting on a bench overlooking the courtyard garden at the Isabella Steward Gardner Museum , or while looking out at Boston from the Top of the Hub Restaurant/Lounge , esp on a nice night - or in the old, classic Oak Room bar at the Copley Plaza Fairmont Hotel -

or if it's a gorgeous weekend with a nice bottle of wine and some special cheese, desserts on the banks of the Charles, etc -

Just make sure if he makes a reservation he tells them he is going to propose at the restaurant or taking her there immediately after proposing, likely they will offer them free drink, champagne or dessert

A half hour north of Worcester, is the town of Westminister, MA off Route 2. We've had a number of family reunions at the Old Mill restaurant, due to the location.

It's in a very quaint/rustic setting with a brook running along the buildings into the pond. We've had Sunday brunch, lunch and dinner here. It's a low key family run business, and I am sure with notice they can sit you in front of the fireplace or one of the more romantic places/views in the restaurant. They have several dining rooms. Or perhaps he wants to pop the question under the covered bridge at the entance.

The town next door to Worcester is Shrewsbury (east on rt9) and there's a small romantic (candlelit and fairly dark!) restaurant called Amici. It would easily be within their budget.
They serve risotto, pasta, pizza and grilled meat/fish.
Linked to this is another restaurant, Willy's Steak House which is slightly more upmarket but within price range and obviously serves steak plus sushi/ fish.
We live in a neighboring town and really enjoy both these restaurants.
See the website for both.
