Dining in Upper East Side
 

4 of us will be going to see an off broadway show on Friday, Dec. 14th. We are planning on eating after the show. Does anyone have any suggestions for eating in this area?<BR>Thanks<BR>Staci

You have literally hundreds of great options on the Upper East Side (my neighborhood). The Atlantic Grill on Third Ave in the mid-70's is excellent, as is the Coconut Grill on First around 76th. Both offer fresh seafood -- Atlantic Grill is higher end and one of former Mayor Ed Koch's favorite restaurants in NYC. <BR><BR>Depending on your budget and the type of atmosphere you're looking for, there's great Italian, Tony's on Second around 83rd Street, Thai, Jasmine on Second at 84th, etc. <BR><BR>For celebrity sighting, you can't beat the very nice (and expensive) Elio's, on Second just north of 84th. I always see famous people there. Bette Midler often sits in the front corner. <BR><BR>So many options.<BR><BR>

For an authentic French Bistro/Brasserie, try Orsay @75th and Lexington. <BR><BR>Great food, good service, and good bar scene.

All of the above are great suggestions for food in this (my) neighborhood.<BR><BR>Here are a few more:<BR><BR>Due (79th & 3rd) -- more upscale Italian than Tony's, but not overly expensive, a real "neighborhood" place.<BR><BR>Sultan (Turkish cuisine, 75th & 3rd) -- something less expensive, but different. Great food and great service. My out-of-town family LOVED it.<BR><BR>Rosa Mexicano (60th & 1st) -- upscale Mexican with made-at-tableside guacamole. You will *definitely* need a reservation here.<BR><BR>Alas, Coconut Grill recently closed. Although it was a Restaurant Associates place (affiliated with Atlantic Grill and others), I never understood how it stayed in business -- I thought the food was very mediocre. JMHO.

York Imperial on York Avenue in the 80's is one of the best newer restaurants in the city...it is not Asian as the name suggests...I challenge you to find a better filet mignon than they serve although everything on their menu is very good. Brunelli's also on York Avenue (same owners) is very good also.
