Dining in South Lake Tahoe
We are a party of 3 adults who will be spending Christmas Eve, Day and the 26th in South Lake Tahoe and I need advice on dining selections.
Based on info I received on another thread here, I booked us into Kalani's for Christmas Eve. I'm interested in Swiss Chalet (looks cute and we like raclette and fondue) and saw that Mirabelle is open for Christmas Eve and day. Thinking to book Mirabelle for Christmas Day dinner and Swiss Chalet for dinner on the 26th. Does that sound like a good line up for our dinners or should I look at other places?
For lunch options I'm looking at Cafe Fiore, Gi Fu Loh (DH is an Asian food fanatic), Fresh Ketch, and Samurai Sushi. Figure I won't need lunch reservations and can check them out a bit before booking or just walking in. Am I on the right track with these places and my no lunch reservations policy? Your advice very much appreciated.

I am not sure if Gi Fu Loh (at Harrah's) is open for lunch or not. I was in Lake Tahoe over the summer and ate there for dinner on a weekend night and it was not very crowded. That was the second time I had eaten there. The food was very good the first time, less so (but still good) the second time.

We had a GTG lunch at Kalani's, and it looked like you don't need lunch reservation. The food was good, service friendly, and we got to try chocolate wine

Try it just for bragging rights It's like drinking red wine and eating dark chocolate after that.

Suzie, thanks. Blue Water Bistro looks nice. It's on the lunch list. Should I be checking to see if Cafe Fiore is open for Christmas Day or the 26th for dinner--instead of Mirabelle?
Dayenu, it was your post on the other thread that got me excited about Kalani's such that I booked it for Christmas Eve. I think somewhere along the line I've had that chocolate wine--a wine tasting or something. I'll look for it again.
Anyone have an opinion on Swiss Chalet, Mirabelle or Cafe Fiore? If all other things are equal--like they're all open so I can choose among them, which two of the three would you recommend for our remaining dinners? Thanks. Julie

Cafe Fiore is very tiny inside. 7 Tables. It is a very romantic restaurant though so if that's the type of atmosphere you want, then go for it.
Maybe with 3 you'd prefer the better Evan's American Gourmet on the 26th. The room is larger and more open than Cafe Fiore and the food is fabulous.
Perhaps you are making the choice based on location since your restaurants are all pretty close in SLT. Evans is on 89 near Camp Richardson. If the weather is not a problem though I would totally go there.
I don't know what's open on Christmas. Perhaps a call to Cafe Fiore and Evans would be in order.

Well, we made it to Tahoe. Storms just before we got there and just after we left but nice weather while we were there and great skiing for Sonny. We ate at Kalani's no less than 3 times. Loved it. Hope to make a full report before next week. Thanks to all for your help. So glad we chose to stay in South Tahoe rather than Squaw, though Sonny went ahead and skiied there two days before we joined him. He loved it but said we'd have gone stir-crazy. More to follow on a separate report thread soon, I hope.
