Dining in Dallas/ Grapevine Texas

Hi,

Will be staying at the Hyatt at DFW for a
few days. Wont have an car so I am looking for suggestions of restaurents which arent
to far from the airport. BBQ/Steak houses/Mexican. How far am I from downtown?
Thanks for the help. Joy

I live in Grapevine. :-) We have almost every chain restaurant in existence, so I won't get into those.

For a REALLY good steak, I highly recommend Kirby's. It is at the Southlake Blvd. exit off 114. VERY good! We also have a local place called The Silver Fox that is on William D. Tate. I haven't tried it, but it gets good reviews. Depending on how soon you'll be here, we have a Bob's Steak & Chop House under construction on Main Street.

For BBQ, we really like Spring Creek. It is at 114 and Main Street. There is also a Colter's BBQ on Bass Pro Drive.

Mexican...Esparza's in downtown Grapevine is a local favorite. Good happy hour! I also like the Baja on William D. Tate. Hubby prefers Los Amigos on NW, to the left off Main Street.

Just so you know... a cab from DFW to Grapevine is $20 each way. (I do this if it's cheaper than parking my car at the airport.) If you make JUST ONE round-trip cab ride from the airport each day, you will have more than paid for a cheap rental car!! The Hyatt does validate parking, too.

Grapevine is about 25 miles from downtown Dallas. It can be a very long drive in rush hour traffic, and a very expensive cab ride ($50 each way!)

Oh, one more restaurant suggestion: this one has both good steaks and Mexican food. La Hacienda Ranch on the southbound side of 121 between Hall-Johnson and Glade roads. If the weather is nice, they have a good patio, too!

Christie, isn't there a shuttle between DFW and downtown Grapevine? Or is it just for guests at the Gaylord?

The shuttle is only between downtown Grapevine and the Gaylord. It won't help Joy since she is staying at the Hyatt. Gaylord's restaurants are just as expensive as those at the Hyatt!

Not sure if this is available but see if you can get a shuttle to Southlake Town Square. There is alot of shopping and restaurants in there. It is an outdoor shopping center. It can be a nice walk around.I have seen hotel shuttle buses there but I don't remember which ones.

We used to live in the area you are talking about, once a year we drive from KC to Dallas just to eat our way through the city! We LOVE Esparza's in Grapevine.

Being from KC (the home of BBQ) we never found BBQ we really enjoyed in TX. There are lots of chains, though.

There are great steaks at Cool River on MacArthur off of 114 in Irving. It is semi-fine dining, if I remember correctly. Right across the street from Cool River there is a super little Italian joint called Cafe Venice (I always get the lobster ravioli).

I have to mention two chain restaurents, Champps and Salt Grass They are affordable with giant portions, good service and good food. I think Salt Grass is a "Texas Experience".
