Dining in Dallas
 

Will be visiting friends in Dallas over Labor Day wekend, can anyone recommend a good (non barbeque) restaurant that I can take them too as a thanky you. I believe they live in north Dallas

Fogo De Chao is awesome. It's a Brazilian steakhouse in North Dallas (Beltline @ Midway)<BR>This place is an experience everyone should have at least one time. NOT the place for a vegan!!!<BR>Excellent meats and gourmet salad bar.<BR>Not Cheap.

Tons of restaurants in North Dallas. Some of the best..<BR><BR>III Forks-steak<BR>P.F. Changs-chinese<BR>Del Frisco steak house<BR>Bob's Steak House<BR>Ruggeri's-italian/steak

i would recommend Sevy's on north preston. very nice atmosphere and decor, wonderful service and food. although sophisticated, prices moderate. an in-restaurant of north dallas biggies, comfortable.

Thanks for the recommendations, however, is there someplace that is not a steak house. It may be heresy in Texas but I don't eat red meat and I find that places that specialize in steak don't tend to do other foods as well as they do meat. I should have specified that in the first place, sorry.

Citizen for upscale Asian. <BR>Ciudad for great, Mexico City-style Mexican, not just tacos, really lovely fish, poultry, meats.<BR>Steel for sushi and more really lovely Asian.<BR>Voltaire for French (though i haven't been there since the original chef left.)<BR>York Street for New American.<BR>All these are fairly pricey, none specialize in beef//steak.<BR><BR>

Ok Susan... possibly you could tell us what you have in mind.<BR>*Tokyo One Sushi & Grill located on Belt Line Road is great<BR>*Sullivans, off the N. Dallas Tollway, has the added attraction of live jazz.<BR>If you like a specific cuisine please tell us... Dallas has more restaurants per capita than NYC, you know!<BR>

TvlPro,<BR><BR>I don't know where you got your facts from, but you are incorrect. The factoid you are referring to is "Within an area of less than five square miles, Addison boasts more than 120 restaurants. In fact, with a total population of only eleven thousand people, Addison contains more restaurants per capita than any other city west of the Mississippi. No wonder Addison is known as the Restaurant Capital of Texas!" This is from www.addisonweb.com which I suggest to you Susan to help find a quality resturaunt in the Dallas area.

Oh and TvlPro (which I can only assume stands for "Travel Professional") New York is not west of the Mississippi (you know that long river that runs from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico but nowhere near New York). This is typical of the local Dallas resident, always claiming how much more, better, etc their city is compared to any other place on Earth. Let's face it, the only thing Dallas is known for is the heat, not the food.

Yep, Dallas is certainly known for hot weather. Not sure where I heard that Dallas County (not Addison specifically) has more restaurants per capita than NYC and it really doesn't matter... Susan just needs to be a little more specific in her request.<BR>Unlike many people in these forums, I only contribute when I have something positive to add.<BR>I am a travel professional but it's not a job you would really understand, it's technical in nature.<BR><BR>So anyway, Susan, give us a little more info and we will be happy to help you find something.

TvlPro basically, I was looking for a good upscale restaurant that is not a steakhouse/BBQ in North Dallas. It can be Italian, French, South American, Greek, Japanese, Chinese, Indian, it does not matter. Thanks to the posters who responded.

Whatever cuisine you want, wherever you want it... you got it.

You might consider asking your friends what their favorite places are and simply picking up the tab for dinner at one of them. We have SO many dining choices available in Dallas and the surrounding areas that everyone seems to have several favorites depending on their mood and where they want to drive! <BR><BR>Dallas also has a wide selection of ethnic restaurants, such as Indian, Middle-Eastern, and Oriental. Perhaps you and your friends would like to try something completely different?<BR><BR>It's not heresy in Texas to not eat red meat. Lots of people, especially health-conscious women, eat just like you do.

Susan<BR><BR>I would like to offer a couple of my favorite resturants in the area. First, Cafe Istanbul, located at the in the shopping center at the corner of Inwood Road and Lover's Lane next to the Inwood theater. This is an exceptional Turkish resturant offering belly dancing on Friday and Saturday night. I suggest reservations if this peaks your interest. The second is Zizikki's a Greek resturant located on Knox-Henderson right off of Central Expressway. <BR>Sorry I don't have any phone numbers or specific addresses, but if you are interested more information should not be hard to find on a yellow pages search of Dallas. I enjoyed Sambuca in Addison. They also have a location in Deep Ellum. They have a pretty eclectic menu with live jazz bands almost every night. Good atmosphere and service.<BR>http://www.sambucajazzcafe.com

Texas girl has some great recommendations.<BR><BR>I would also add:<BR>The Green Room - new american??<BR>Patrizios or Salve - italian<BR>Mi Cocina - mexican<BR><BR>Steel is very crowded & hard to get into. If you are not into the scene part of it, I might substitute Tei Tei for Steel in the japanese.

Green Room is fun. Abacus has interesting menu and kind of a scene. <BR>

The Inn at Turtle Creek is the best that the city has to offer.

If they live in North Dallas then there's many, many options to be found along Belt Line Rd. in Addison (technically it's Addison, but many think of it as N. Dallas).<BR><BR>Fogo De Chao is very good; however as previous poster said, it's a MEAT place.<BR>Ruggerri's --- good Italian --- however call them first as I think they're temporarily closed due to a fire.<BR>Lombardi Mare's --- another good Italian, with emphasis on seafood ('mare' = sea)<BR>Lefty's --- despite the casual sounding name, this is a very nice seafood spot.<BR>Copeland's --- one of my personal favorites; it's got New Orleans style cuisine; and these garlic mashed potatoes to die for ! (not necessarily a NO specialty, but yum, yum, yum)<BR><BR><BR><BR>
