Dining in Chelsea - by 22nd and 8th Ave

My sister and her boy friend are in NYC for a few days and are staying near 22nd and 8th Ave.

It's been a while since I have been around Chelsea - as I usually stay in Greenwich Village - or Midtown - but I recall there is a Murray's Bagels close to there - on 8th? - and also that there was a pretty good Thai and also Chinese place around 20th? and 8th -and think we had tapas at Boqueria on around 19th? - but that's about it.

Could you recommend some good - more local type places in that area - and also where you would go for a special night out.

Thank you.

Peppe Giallo on 10th and 25th. That's good local and not expensive.

Chelsea Pizza 23 - good hole-in-the-wall pizza joint.

Intermezzo on 8th and 20th is good. More expensive than Peppe Giallo.

Bocca di Bacco on 9th and 20th is more upscale.

When I go back to NY, I eat Italian, Greek diner (Chelsea Square and Rail Line are across the street from each other on 9th and 23rd) or Chinese (Chelsea Cottage is ok, there's better elsewhere in the City) - can't get the equivalents where I am without a LOT of research (or long drive).

And if you want something more upscale, Colicchio & Sons (the tavern room is mid-priced) and Del Posto, next to each other underneath the Highline, are both excellent.

One of my favorites in the area has always been Tello's (next door to Intermezzo), but it was closed when I tried to go a couple of weeks ago. Strangely, the web site still works, and I'd heard that it was only closed for "renovations" but it looked pretty abandoned to me.

Thank you Doug and all and will pass it on.

My sister reported they were heading over to the Chelsea/Warehouse markets area - but not sure what they chose.

Last night - she said they tried a fun place - "Meatballs"? - next to Chelsea Pizza - and their hotel also recommended Intermezzo - and Spice - the Thai place on 8th.

We ate at Colicchio & Sons Tap Room last time we were in town and loved it. The grits were mouthwatering (they sent me the recipe, including the brand of grits they use!) and the brisket was scrumptious.

Yes, Spice has good Thai food, and "Meatballs" probably refers to the Meatball Shop, which has a Chelsea location. Both are definitely recommendable.
