Dining alone in Boston

Hi, me again! I'm also heading to Boston in a week and although I've been before, not on my own! Where are some good places near Back Bay/Copley to eat on my own. I like a "dining friendly bar" or easy going restaurant with good service. Any cuisine is good as I'm one of those..... foodies!

You haven't mentioned when you're going, but Faneuil Hall/Quincy Marketplace is chock full of terrific options, most with tables set outdoors where you can enjoy the scenery and passing parade in the nice weather, rather than dangle on a bar stool. But, if a barstool appeals to you, head for Ye Olde Oyster House nearby. Lively raw bar with magnificent oyster stew.

Another fine place with terrace dining (among lots in the Back Bay) is Stephanie's at Exeter & Newbury.

One fabulous place with a "dining friendly bar", though, is Abe & Louie's (the Abe & Louie's special salad is magnificent) right across from the Pru. The "Last Hurrah" at the Omni-Parker House is wonderful as well.

djkbooks, thanks! I'll be there mid May so I guess we'll have to wait and see what the weather is like!

Great suggestions!

If you'll be there on a weekend, brunch at Abe & Louie's is wonderful, especially at a table on the terrace. It's fun to watch the Duck Tours take off across the street.

Unfortunately I'm just there Monday night thru Wed. morning.

Any other suggestions are appreciated! Also has anyone eaten at Figs lately? I'm a fan of the Kingfish Hall and Olives, just wondering if Figs is also a good choice?

I read a thread on the Chowhound Boston site about dining at the bar at 9 Park Street which is Barbara Lynch's restaurant. The food is great and the bar is near the front windows which face the Boston Commons.

How about Skipjack's across from the John Hancock building in Copley? They have a great raw bar and food-my fave is the ginger sea bass and the gingered calamari.

Maggiano's across from the Park Plaza is great for food too. Mind you the portions are huge. I love their stuffed clams (special only), their chicken marsala, and the gnocchi in vodka sauce finishing off with the chocolate zaccuto cake.

If you want a more upscale Italian food Via Matta on the other side of the Park Plaza is good too.

Have a great time!

figs is excellent. I have eaten single in many places in Boston - its not an issue. Go wherever you want, and no one will care.

Hey all, just back from Boston and wanted to thank you for your suggestions.

I ate dinner at Brasserie Jo, their skate in brown butter is to die for!!

Had a yummy lunch of lobster roll at Stephanies on Newberry, glass of wine and snack at Abe & Louie's (excellent bartender Dennis!) and then ended up meeting a friend and had the best margarita's (oh and some food) at Cactus Club.

Love Boston! Thanks for all the sugestions!
