Dim Sum in San Francisco?
I would like an recommendation for a good dim sum experience in San Francisco. Any suggestions?

Yank Sing in the Rincon Center is the best dim sum in the USA. Expensive and worth every cent.
|
I'm not a dim sum expert, but New Asia on Pacific Ave was recommended to us by others, including the tour guide from the Chinatown walking tour we took. So we went and had some really good food. My husband and I stuffed ourselves for $25 including tip.

Yank Sing is *not* the best dim sum in SF, much less the USA.
|
Ton Kiang in the Richmond District - it's on Geary near 23rd Avenue.
I don't know if they serve a "tea lunch" every day - might only be on weekends. Randy, be prepared to arrive early or wait in line at popular dim sum places - it's always a crowded, noisy experience, but that's part of the fun.

I like Hong Kong Flower Lounge on Geary Street.

Just had lunch today at City View on Commercial Alley, between Montgomery & Kearney. Found the selection better than most, great service, interesting items. I will go again. We spent $45.00 for 2, mostly because we had 4 special items. Regular prices are $2.10 - $3.20 per item. I also like Yank Sing, but there are 2 locations, Stevenson Place and Rincon Center.

Yes definitely HK Flower Lounge and Ton Kiang. And ones on Clement St. as it nears Park Presidio Ave. Look for lots of Chinese diners and you'll know you're in the right place. That was my neighborhood and I miss it.

Another vote for Yank Sing. If they offer squab wrapped in a lettuce leaf, grab it. Yum.

Yank Sing is wonderful and if you're looking for a nice place with lovely surroundings, this is the ticket. It's more upscale (expensive) than many dim sum restaurants that may well be better, but it's plenty good for me. Also, it might be less intimidating than more ethnic dim sum restaurants where communication with the trolly people is often challenging. Another one I like is Harbor Village in the Embarcadero Center. Here's a tip, pass on anything you recognize from your favorite Chinese restaurant back home and go for the items you've never seen before. They're almost always yummy.

I am Chinese and liked both Yank Sing and Ton Kiang. There were a couple of good places in Chinatown, too....but I dont know their names (only know them by sight) and they speak very little English!

I second New Asia (772 Pacific Ave.)

Very good food and cheap. Not the greatest ambience but the food...
