Digital camera for travelling??
 

hi,im new in US,so im plan to travel for one month,so I need a camera to get beautiful pictures,just I searched Canon EOS Rebel T1i ,

It has many of the features of a SLR, but without interchangeable lenses. This is good and bad. Bad, it's not quite a "flexible". But, then again, you probably won't desire changing lenses too soon.

Good, less chance for dust and damage. It has a moveable viewfinder, allowing pictures to be composed from awkward angles. It's also smaller, but a sturdier build than the Canon's "prosumer" line.

I have loved my Canon Powershot SI3--older model of these I'd guess. The rotatable viewfinder is a wonderful feature. There is also value in the size and shape of the camera being more like a "real" camera, than just a "card"--it can be held better and steadier. Image stabilization in any of the small cameras is very important, and especially for long optical zoom.

depends on featurs you want--the Canon is an excellet camera.I wanted a camera to supplemnet mine that could just fit in my pocket,has at least 12X zoom, and can take an HD video picture.( I was getting tired of lugging arund the larger camera) after a bit of research wound up getting a Panasonic Zs7--it has 16X zoom,takes great pics,has 720HD video,and is very small.You can get it for 250 at the DigitalMegastore.com website.Whatever you buy,bring extra batteries, and/or a charger,and bring an extra memory card.We took video of the Macys fireworks and they came out great.All cameras are a compromoise, and if you want excellent pics,get the Canon or a Nikon, the Zs7 has some weakness in low light situations--not for a pocket sized camera,its excellent

McLaurie has it right. It's an ad. I never go to links like that and pay little attention, but now I recognize that particular one as one that is on another board I frequent. Always "I'm looking at this--is it a good deal".

I was surprised during trips to Europe in June and YNP/GTNP in August how many people now have DSLR cameras. Maybe it's the lower prices.

I also found that there "appeared" to be more Canon DSLR cameras than all the rest together.

I just replaced my aging Canon 350xt with the latest model. A T2i.

Yes, it's bigger and heavier than a little P&S that fits in your pocket. That's a decision you make. But with so many people now using DSLR cameras you won't be alone.

When in YNP I saw that Canon had set up a little tent and people were signing up for classes (I don't know if there was a price on this or if it was a promo). I then saw a girl with a Canon t-shirt on guiding a group of about a dozen people to areas of interest. She looked to be giving advice and answering questions.

looked at the "ad", and i was surprised to see the biggest file you can make with the Canon is 5MB--the Panasonic takes a 12MB,and can do 10pics/sec,and lots of other useful features.And the Canon is like 650 bucks vs 250--??

Not so. I have the T2i (one generation later) and it's an 18 megapixel. I believe the T1i is 15.

The T2i is about 7..US without the lens. If the Panasonic is 250 then you are comparing apples to oranges. The Panasonic isn't a DSLR for that price.

You are looking at the size of the file (incorrectly I might add) and not the megapixels. And. . . megapixels isn't everything.

The T2i has excellent high ISO performance. That means when I walked into Old Faithful Inn and set my camera to ISO3200, I got beautiful, clean results.

We won't talk about the HD video which I sometimes use. But that's not why I upgraded to the newest model.

Please get your comparisons correct!!

Myer--i know all that--im am a photographer and didnt want to turn the answer itno a competition of who knows more about photography--all i was trying to say was all cameras are a compromise against the human eye,it just depends on the posters needs

Actually, my point wasn't to push Canon. If one camera was obviously better than the rest it would be the only one left on the market. My point was to relate what I saw on recent trips regarding DSLR vs P&S cameras.

Obviously, there are a lot of P&S cameras out there. But I was really surprised how many people had DSLR cameras. What surprised me more during conversations was how many of people took them on trips within a couple of weeks of buying them.

My old Canon Powershot450 took wonderful photos. It was easy to slip into a pocket if need be. It is now deep underwater in Hidden Canyon in Zion Nat'l Park (so much for keeping it in your pocket!). Sure, it was a Point & Shoot, but really good at that.

I now have Canon G11. It's less bulky than the Rebel models and gives a lot of flexibility. I think I'm going to like it a lot, but I have to admit I miss my little Canon Powershot for its simplicity when traveling.
