Diff bw Hanalei and Princeville??
 

Help! I am debating between staying at the Marc Pali Ke Kua (address says Princeville Hanalei) or Pu'u Po'a (address says Princeville). Is there a big difference between those two locations? Especially view-wise??? Thanks.

Try doing a search of each hotel and location. You should get some good info. Have a great time.

Both are right next to each other the Pua Poa being the closest to the Pville Sheraton. I like the looks of pua poa (compare with online photos)better but in terms of location there is not much of a difference. Wanta save a buck go to Pali ke kua. <BR><BR>Hanalei is five minutes from the both of them and I am sorry to say this is my favorite location of all. It can get confusing because of Hanalei Bay Resort also in Pville has a name that makes you think it is Hanalei. The two hotels you mention are in walking distance to sheraton and HBR.<BR><BR> I like Hanalei area down in the valley (5 minutes by car)because I can walk on flat surface to the beach and it is close to Kokee, Tunnels beaches. It is also away from the "Resort Community" of Pville. You are still staying in areas that are renting out summer homes but there also is a local element that makes if feel homey. I also love the kalalau trail. <BR><BR>You will still have a good time in Pville and you will be close to bird sanctuary at the lighthouse, secrets beach,Queen's bath, annini, you just have to walk down sometimes steep paths to the beach. Pville still has it's perks here . <BR><BR>I think at both of the accommodations you have listed there is a veiw of the pacific and a dramatic view at that. The only difference would be if you had a bali high view and I think the Sheraton gets that view over both those locations blocking yours. Have you gone online to look at views there are photos all over the internet of those condos?

Thanks for the great info Sarah. I got was definitely confusing to read about "Hanalei" Bay Resort in Princeville. While Hanalei sounds like my kind of town, we're still leaning towards staying in the Princeville Resort area for the view ... some of the condo's we've researched have good views. However, we're having a hard time finding one with airconditioning. (Creature comforts, I know.) Any other suggestions of places with great Kauai views and A/C :) would be welcome!!

Kit I think air-conditioning will be less of a problem perched up in Princeville. I have stayed at HBR and rarely used it. Remember there are cool trade wind breezes that tend to increase imho in pville. You may wake up a bit sticky in the mornings but that is the worst of it. I slept with a blanket every night last summer without air (mid August) I went with my sister last year who does not go anywhere without central air she did fine. <BR><BR>However I too this year am looking to accommodate her better by finding air-conditioning. I only remember her bringing it up once or twice but it was never while we were actually experiencing the heat it was always after the fact. <BR><BR>Pua Poa has air-conditioning in some pricier unites. vacationspot.com or just keep searching on the web I have found them just don't feel like popping out the extra doe. Hanalei Bay Resort also has air-conditioning if you rent from hotel. Thing is it is not that important if you are out and about every day. The evenings are cooler than here on the east coast. I have air-conditioning in my home and sleep with it here. There is less humidity and it is breezier in Hawaii.<BR><BR>I have not stayed Hanalei Colony Resort with cheaper alternatives available. I would love to go here but I feel with affordable condos and going every year I should at least try to cut corners. A local and I should say surfer (older) (tell you this so that you weigh accordingly) told me it was run down. Still it is in a lovely area right on the beach. I would definitely try it out. No phones or tv sets in your rooms. Do a search Dan I do see people on this forum speaking well of HBC. Also go to Fodors hotel suggestions here. I feel that the North Shore won't be as wonderful as it is forever. Looks like HBC captures some of this beauty. Haena is one of the more remote areas of the island. <BR>

We stayed at Pali Ke Kua twice( but not through Marc) and really liked it.<BR><BR>Keep in mind, that for the most part these are individually owned condos and are rented by Marc and others. Individul units may vary in terms of decor and quality of furnishings. Our unit came with evertying,,including picnic cooler and beach chairs.<BR><BR>You need to get pics of the actual unit if possible. Location is also very important. We stayed in an upper level condo(2nd floor), with vaulted ceiling. <BR><BR>Our view backed up right to a cliff overlooking Hanalei Bay ( the water not the resort). THe lower level units have less of a view. Can't say much ofr the units that are not facing the water.<BR><BR>Location was supurb.

Just remember that many agencies as well as private owners rent these spaces. Hanalei North Shore Properties (large selection and I found them helpful even though I went with private owner), Napali Coast rentals, vacationspot.com, vacationhost.com and you could still find others. Thanks for the heads up on lower unites at Pale Ke kua Dick I did not know that.

Just a few additional comments:<BR><BR>Right about the HCR being run down. It's on a beach that is not swimable, and it's very windy.<BR><BR>Right about the views at the two condos you are considering. Here's my objection to those views though: they are flat out ocean views, and usually not of the lovely Bali Hai mountain and of Hanalei Bay itself. These later views are to me the ultimate on earth.<BR><BR>Right about Hanalei North Shore Properties. Try also Kauai Vacation Rentals at kauaivacationrentals.com. They have a lot of north shore properties to choose from including the two condo complexes you are considering.<BR><BR>Good luck, and enjoy my wonderful spot in paradise!

Other sections have ocean view only(no mountain). upper level units are more expensive, but have vaulted ceiling and loft bedroom & bath. Hey, Kit, go to www.google.com and type in "princeville condo a/c air conditioning". I did it and got about 13 pages of results...many are condo's for rent with window air conditioners. (Don't really think you'll need it though...)

At Pali Ke Kua.... units 100-126 and 200-226 have the best views(facing the ocean and the mountain).<BR><BR>If you are concerned about A/C..get an upper level unit(with cathedral ceiling) so that you can leave balcony door open all night.
