Diary of the suitcase nuts

Help I need a new suitcase! I have a huge expensive one but last time I went to glide onto the airplane they told me my suitcase was to heavy!!! You simply cannot imagine the horror I felt having to switch my suitcase around and IN FRONT OF OTHER PEOPLE. I need to buy a smaller yet no less efficiant and beautiful suitcase. I need it to be femine yet tough, attractive yet handsome. I also need the suitcase to be pink if at all possible! Any tips on brands, stores ideas will help me on my trip to Disney World. **smooch**

There's a pink set for you in Macy's sale http://www.macys.com/:
Diane von Furstenberg "Hearts" 3- Piece Set (no-one will think you didn't pay the full $800)

but if I were you I would go for zebra print, especially for Disney World. It is what your public would expect.

muffin,
Since you're looking for the "feminine yet tough" style of luggage, look no further than the resiliant Disney Princess Bags. You may recall those darned princesses have certainly had their fair share of hardships: kicked out of the palace by stepmom, poisoned by a wicked witch, mauled by an overbearing oaf, practically drowned by an eight-legged sea creature - and the list goes on! Each have been sent packing yet have emerged unscathed.

With one of their personal bags, perhaps Prince Charming will come to your aide should you need assistance. I hear he's got a pretty good *smooch* himself!

seetheworld Dec 29th, 2005 05:36 AM

Muffin, sweetie, how did your cat make out? Will she need a new suitcase as well? If so, might I suggest a "Hello Kitty" bag :D

OneWanderingJew Dec 29th, 2005 05:49 AM

Muffin, Sweetie! Where have you kept your entertaining self lately??

I would check out ebags.com. I entered "pink" in their search box and came up with a few cute pink purses and the bonus the $ goes to the Susan G. Koman foundation!

PLUS, they have quite a few choices of pink luggage for you to choose from but I worry. Will your bag be the right shade of pink to match your travel outfit? Our little Muffin should always look perfect going to Disney. Don't forget to look for a pink water bottle--must keep hydrated to stand on those lines!!

**Smooches**

Muffin **smooch** dear.

Don't waste money on expensive designer bags! Make your own!

MuffCases!

Go to your nearest craft store and purchase a hot glue gun, yards of pink feather boa, silver spray paint, and silver sequines.

Purchase a cheap 22 inch pullman and remove all tags.

Paint the outside of the Muffcase silver as well as the handles silver. Recoat as much as needed to get rid of the paint drips and cover black nylon. This will also waterproof said Muffcase.

While paint is tacky, add sequins using hot glue gun.

When paint and sequins have set, use hot glue gun to glue pink feather boa around all seams on Muffcase.

You'll never have to experience the dread and horror of someone accidently mistaking your Muffcase for their suitcase! Your sequins may fall off and get all over everone elses luggage but won't you be doing them a favor beautifying their drab sad luggage?

Leona Dec 29th, 2005 06:54 AM

Pink sounds adorable, but once the baggage handlers have gotten their hands on it, it will be pink no more!

We spent a ton of $$ on new Hartmann luggage, a brown tweed. It had oil stains after the first trip!

GoTravel Dec 29th, 2005 09:00 AM

The pink fur flying from the Muffcase to the suitcases will be a welcome addition.

Think of it as helping beautify checked baggage!

GoTravel -
you need to (quickly, very quickly) find the remote and change the station to another channel.

ncgrrl Dec 29th, 2005 09:48 AM

GoTravel,
You write:

While paint is tacky

Why, yes it is. I suggest goldplating/leafing the bag then adding sequins and boas.

KE1TH Dec 29th, 2005 10:01 AM

GoTravel suggests to add the sequins whilst the paint is still "tacky".... my observation is that muffin would have years, not just minutes, to add the sequins as the paint would always be "tacky"..... :)

GoTravel Dec 29th, 2005 10:03 AM

Are you silly 'peasants' MOCKING me??

The riff raff?

hmnf. We'll just see about that!

ncgrrl Dec 29th, 2005 10:46 AM

Peasant?
Mocking?

Never.

I just loved the way the phrase was written. It is correct, because paint does have a tacky state.

ncgrrl, owner of a glue gun and a bunch of paint -- though it's in a least quart sized containers and for doing fun things like painting walls, not suitcases.

FainaAgain Dec 29th, 2005 11:29 AM

Are you sure your pink suitcase will look right while you roll it wearing black leather pants?

Or your leather pants have pink applique?
:*

beachbum Dec 29th, 2005 12:31 PM

Where's your sense for fashion, Faina??? Even I, a guy, know that pink and black work fine together. ;-)

Have you thought about commissioning Gucci, muffin? I don't think any run-of-the-mill $800 bag will do for you.

GoTravel Dec 29th, 2005 12:39 PM

Ahem, uh beachbum, you are painting the black suitcase silver and trimming the Muffcase with pink feathers.

seetheworld Dec 29th, 2005 12:40 PM

Gee and I thought the Fodors luggage tags were special! Now let's see...where can I find me a pink boa? :D

beachbum Dec 29th, 2005 12:56 PM

Pardon you, GT ;), but we may not be thinking of the same muffin. I purposefully didn't comment on your recommended baggage treatment... did someone say tacky? muffin, is that you??

GoTravel Dec 29th, 2005 12:58 PM

Mea Culpa beachbum.

I do now realize you were speaking of Muffin's leather pants.

But how do you know they were black and not pink or silver?

Did you actually see Muffin? Do you have photos?

beachbum Dec 29th, 2005 01:15 PM

Do I have photos? Well... no. But it seems I bump into muffin (or someone who looks a lot like her) almost everywhere I go. You know, dressed to the nines, six inch heels, and always black leather. Errr.... maybe I have seen her in red. ;-)

muffin_eater Dec 29th, 2005 04:11 PM

Muffy,

How <i>are</i> you darling? How dreadful it must be to bare one's wares in the airport. I have never had such exposure nor embarrassment. I strongly suggest that you scour the offerings of your local Tumi store - this is the time of year that you will find significant savings.

Buti has created something with you in mind entirely:

or here:

However, this is my fave:

They are quite affordable, indeed! Do let us know what you've purchased and post a long-term owner's report of durability &amp; ease of use.

LOL!!
&quot; because paint does have a tacky state.&quot;
Oh darlin, there are SO many tacky states! where to begin ? LOL

This has me a bit worried, my daughter just came back from Europe.. She bought a set of Pink luggage for this trip.
The good news:
She saw it immediately and no one picked it up , mistaking it for being theirs.
The bad news:
She has <font color="pink">Pink lugggage :D

</font>

ABC's GMA had a segment about the best carry-on yesterday (12-28-05). You may want to check their website for the information.

BuffaloGirl Dec 29th, 2005 06:51 PM

Muffin, why don't you hire a Henry Winkler &quot; The Fonz&quot; look-a-like to walk thru the airport with you and have him say &quot;Heeeeyyy&quot;.... and then people will mistake you for Pinky Tuscadero! Be sure to be dressed in pink to match your luggage.

No one will know for sure, but you (and, well, the Fonz look-a-like)!

FainaAgain Jan 1st, 2006 05:36 PM

I need luggage therapy \:D/
:*

P_M Jan 1st, 2006 06:00 PM

Faina, I am currently in luggage therapy, at least I think I am, as my therapist says I carry around too much baggage from the past. I always thought he was speaking figuratively, but now I'm not so sure. :-?

What a fabulous idea, BuffaloGirl!! I have always had a mental picture of all Fodorites, and here's how I picture our Muffin. Remember Pinky's little sister, Leather Tuscadero? I think our Muffin looks like a combination of Pinky and Leather Tuscadero, only Muffin has a lot more style and class. &lt;smooch&gt;

cigalechanta Jan 1st, 2006 06:12 PM

mufin, muffin, how you have been missed and now you start off our new year, with a pink glow as I raise my pinky to you and pinkerize what you look like in your pink.Is a pinkcure possible for you to show us what you look like?

AnnMarie_C Jan 2nd, 2006 04:04 AM

Muffin, I've missed you! Hope you find what you're looking for--Happy New Luggage!! :-D
