Diamond Head - walk there along beach?

Can you get to Diamond Head by walking the entire trip along the beach from Hilton Hawaiian Village? If so, how long would it take?

Or, would it be easier to walk there along the streets?

I don't think you would want to walk to Diamond Head from Hilton Hawaiian Village. I believe it was at least a 20 minute drive from the hotel when we went two years ago. Maybe other folks have walked it and can give you more information. You're also probably going to want to hike up Diamond Head once you get there and it's a very steep climb, some of it on paths, and some of it on steps with hand rails. Be sure to take a flashlight to help you get through the tunnel and have a great trip!

Mlarson, I'll try to help a little here. I know it's about one and a half-miles from HHV down to Sans Souci Beach in front of the New Otani Hotel. You could walk the beach or sidewalks....... we never walked the beach the whole way but it's wonderful at sunset to walk Waikiki Beach, watching the lights of Waikiki come on, and hear the music drifting from the hotels....... Heaven!

Now, my husband walked, from the New Otani, where we were staying, to the top of Diamond Head and back. It's a little over two miles from the New Otani to the base of Diamond Head, then about 1 - 1/4 miles up to the summit.

Mlarson, sorry! I hit "post" accidentally. (Obviously, you're not going to walk the beach at sunset, then go on to Diamond Head........ just throwing that in about sunset!;-) )

So you would walk 1 -1/2 miles down to the intersection you'd take to Diamond Head, then walk over two miles to it, then walk another mile and a quarter to the top. Only you know if you're in shape/want to do that. (It would be too much for me!) Hope this helps a little!

After my husband did Diamond Head, he slept all the way back from Honolulu to Raleigh, practically!:-)

It will be a VERY long walk... from HHV, I would pass... you also will not need a flashlight, as the tunnel is now lit.

That is one VERY LONG walk. I stayed at the HHV a few months back. We drove to the Diamond Head, about a 10 monute drive. If you do not have a car, The Bus also goes there. I have provided the information about the routes as well as a link to The Bus website.
