Detroit Tigers new ball park question

Any information about places to stay near the ballpark for a Memorial Day weekend visit would be greatly appreciated. Or would other plans be advisable. I think the new park's name is Co-America. Haven't been to Detroit in a very long time so anything about restaurants, other things of interest for a group of four adults will help. We also have heard there are some new casinos- any one a Detroit expert? We will be driving in from Chicago. Thanks again.

There is a big electronic music fest that weekendin downtown, so you should book a room soon. I would recommend the courtyard or the ren cen marroit. Both of these hotels are within minutes of the park, but the fest is accross the street. There is a ramada downtown that is slighly sketchy, but I've stayed there 2x and the buisiness size rooms-suites are nice and this is the closest to the park. The comerica park area has been revitalized over the last few years. get a beer at the state bar across the street or jacobys near the courtyard

The casino is in Greektown which is near Coamerica park. I think the People Mover may go between them or at least get you close. In Greektown, the Atheneum Suite hotel is really nice. Their phone number is 1 800 772 2323.

The hotel Pontchartrain is a little less expensive but still in the downtown area. It used to be a Holiday Inn but isn't listed as one anymore. The local number is 313 965 0200.

Good Luck!

Brooke

Thank you Josh and Brooke! I will follow through on trying out your suggestions. We are still debating if we will stay 1 or 2 nights but you've given me some excellent ideas to start.
Do you know if Tiger tickets are being sold very fast because of the new stadium. Have there been any news about this in your local media. Also if anyone else has any good ideas about this area or knows what the musicfest is about in detail, please post. I really appreciate it. THANKS!

Also, I forgot to ask this one important aspect. Is there any highway/ road information that we should be aware of entering Detroit or around the new stadium? I know driving in Detroit is tricky but I have someone driving who did it years ago. Do they still have the left hand turn designations that are different than most other states? Are parking fees comparable everywhere (Downtown vs Greektown)?
Jeanette-
Driving in Detroit is always a problem. There are massive construction projects on many expressways and surface streets. The Detroit Free Press updates many of these potential delays daily-check there website perhaps. The music festival you mentioned is truely an internatioal event. Artists from the States, Europe, N Africa And South America have all been involved in the past. It is electronic music however-more geared towards the club scene rather than radio friendly, The audiences are young and very enthusiastic and really well behaved. If time permits, keep in mind both the Detroit Institute of Art and the Charles Wright Museum of African American History. Two very enjoyable institutions. There are now three casinos in Detroit- Greektown being the nicest with the best location and People Mover tram access, MGM and the locally owned Motor City being more remote but with tremendous secured parking areas. Also, Windsor Ontario is south of Detroit across the river and has a great assortment of restaraunts and active street life day and night. You may want to consider staying there because of the current exchange rate. There is also a Casino/Hotel in Windsor with great rooms. As for Tiger tickets, sales can be really brisk bt slow for other games-depends on day and opposing team. If you have any other questions, post here and I'll check back. BTW-Detoit is celebrating its 300 th. anniversery this year-expect hugeparties and events all summer.
