Detroit Rrstaurant Recs
 

We will be in Detroit for a couple nights and would like restaurant recommendations. We are staying at Aloft downtown. We are pretty eclectic in what we enjoy-anything from food truck to nice dining is fine. Thanks

Try Greektown and Monroe Ave.
Many tasty choices and friendly casinos.

A-Lofts is fabulous, hope you chose a city view room, much nicer than the atrium view and lower cost. Greektown is only good for a walk through and perhaps a drink. For breakfast check out Dime Store just down the street from you. Happy Hour during the week Roast, in the Book Cadillac - also lovely for dinner. Fabulous cocktails, small plates and great vibe is Wright & Co and if you've got the budget Joe Muer's overlooking the river is exquisite. Head to midtown for breakfast at Avalon, if you've time check out the Detroit Institute of Arts and do have dinner at Chartreuse, quirky, eclectic, locally sourced - amazing.

The Café inside the DIA has really good food. Might be better for lunch but I have had dinner there when going to an exhibit.

For more casual dinning, Union Street on Woodward, The Majestic across the street from Union Street. Mario's on Second is old school Italian.

Campus Matius has many places. I have not been to The Townhouse but my friends have and have recommended it. There are usually a few food trucks in the same area but not always consistent.

A trip to Detroit would not be complete without a coney island hot dog. Lafayette or American, they are next to each other.

Coney Islands are to Detroit what BBQ is to Kansas City. The Two best known are Lafayette Coney Island and American Coney Island, which are next door and were founded by brothers in 1917. Lafayette is my favorite, with its 1950s fixtures and feel.

The chili dogs and chili fries are great and the whole experience, from the Greek gentleman taking the order without writing it down to walking back to the table with a row of plates stacked up their arms is great.

We had breakfast at Dime Store Cafe and Hudson Cafe-both very good.
Dinners were excellent at Selden Standard and Wrigth& Co.
Detroit is truly a city making a comeback- gorgeous architecture and great museum, DIA.
