Destinations within 4 hours of Philly.
 

I'm thinking about going away for the 4th of July weekend with my husband and am looking for some suggestions. We would like to go somewhere where the weather is cooler than in Philly and we want to be able to get there in 4 hours or less. We also don't want to spend too much money. I was thinking about upstate New York (perhaps Niagara Falls or the Finger Lakes region) but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am from Philly originally and went to school in upstate New York, and at this time of year the weather in the FIngerlakes region is not necessarily cooler than in Philly.

The Adirondacks and Catskills in New York come to mind, as do the Poconos in Pennsylvania. All mountainous and cool. If you are leaning towards the Finger Lakes, Watkins Glen is beautiful. There's nothing in Niagra Falls to cool you down unless your take the Maid of the Mist Boat tour!!

Niagara Falls will take over 6 hours from Philly.

The Poconos are very nice. If you want a beach area, then I would recommend Cape May, NJ.
