destin vacation
We (family of three, 2 adults, one 7 yr.old)are staying at the Embassy Suites Destin the first week of June. I've been hearing that the beaches and water are among the best in the United States and will make you think you are in the Caribbean. For those of you who have been there, do you think this is true? Also, how's the snorkeling? What (besides the beaches) are some family oriented activities we might plan? Is the Embassy Suites close enought to the beach to walk? Will it be overcrowded? Thanks for any info you might have.

What you have heard about the beaches is true, they are wonderful. White sand and the water is usually fairly calm, which is nice for younger swimmers. We have vacationed in the area several times and have never been disappointed. We have 2 young children and have found the Destin area to be very family friendly. In fact, we have just planned another trip to Destin for this June as well.
Enjoy your trip.
Enjoy your trip.

Destin is on the Carribean.
You may wish to visit the Big Kahuna water park and the Gulfarium aquarium. There are good snorkeling places and excursions, though most of Destin and environs face wide open sea. You see clearly, but nothing is there. Early
June will be crowded, as all local (within 300 miles, anyway) schools are out by then.

Thanks for the responses. I was wondering about the beach in front of the Embassy Suites called Miramar Beach. Is it one of the nicer beaches or should we spend some time along the Emerald Coast at other beaches? Also, what about Henderson State Park? Is it worth a trip out there?

You and your 7 yr. old should love Destin. It will be crowded, but all the better for your kidlet to find friends at the beach. It will get very hot by early afternoon, so you may want to plan around that. As far as family activities, lots of opportunities to spend your money! Several mini-golf choices, go karts, the already mentioned water park. As far as dining, a good rule of thumb is go to dinner early, before 6 p.m., or you will face long waits, as well as crowded, crowded streets. Have a wonderful time!
