What the drought is starting to look like – Feb 2014

On the West coast we are deeply concerned about the storms over the eastern half of the country. So much so, that we forget to look around us. When we do, it gets awfully sad. Eleven states are in severe drought.

I’m an outdoorsman and love to fish and CAMP. Fishing the central coast rivers in CA is now outlawed.

This time of the year our hills would be velvety green and are nick-named the Irish Hills in San Luis Obispo County. Now some of the dead grass is disappearing and leaving bald spots on the hills.

We have had a little about this on the news and how this will be noticed in the grocery store but the pictures really convey how serious the drought is.

Are there any suggestions offered by the authorities for saving water?

Cattlemen are already starting to sell off their herds. I drove along I-5 last weekend between Sacramento and Fresno County. Pretty sad. Some green grass staring to appear, but it is kind of too late to help livestock producers much. We need a better snow pack if we are going to make thru this year.

This is really bad.
Praying for rain for CA, the nice, gentle, drenching kind.

Obama is or was in Calif to give 200-300 million in aid to the state.

>>The overall package includes smaller amounts to aid in the most extreme drought areas and to help food banks that serve families affected by the water shortage. Obama also called on federal facilities in California to limit water consumption immediately.>>
