destin hotspots
hi! we've got 4 couples going down this weekend, late 20s, no kids. we want to hit some of the less-touristy bars and restaurants. we've already done the backporch, harry t's thing. any suggestions? last time i was there, there was a bar called something like the grand isle cafe-is it still there?
thanks for any input, don't want to get stuck going to any over-priced rubbery food places.

suebee: I never found anything BUT the over-priced rubbery food places. Was turned off by Destin, personally.

Try the Red Bar in Grayton Beach on
Hwy 30 A East of Destin. Great Jazz
bar and food. Really popular spot for young (and old) adults. Also on 30 A is :
Smiling Fish Cafe at Gulf Place, or
a lot more relaxed is Elmos- good
seafood, quaint atmosphere and
live "on the porch" music. Destin
really is pretty much a turn off.

I'd head east out of Destin toward Santa Rosa and Grayton Beach. Red Bar is a definite. There are a lot of interesting places along 30A.

One of my favorites is Cafe Sublime in Santa Rosa Beach. Here's a review of it:
http://www.nwfdailynews.com/archive/dining_reviews/010323newsdinrev.html

Have a great time!

i disagree. destin really does have beautiful beaches. and being younger and with no kids, it's a great spot to sit on the beach and get a tan and have a few beers. the red bar is cool, but it's pretty far away, if i remember correctly. never heard of grand isle cafe. with that many people, you should just get your own liquor and have your own party.
