Destin FL - recovery from IVAN?

Booked at Beach Retreat Condo on Scenic 98 in Destin Oct 2-9. Landlord says all is ok except for the beach (drop off to get to it). What's the real scoop? Will my anticipated beautiful view of the Gulf waters be disappointedly full of debris? Are the golf courses playable? Beach activities open?

bjeden, I think the hotel is being truthful with you. Destin did not take a hard hit. Although I'm not in Destin but in the Tampa area, I went to the beach last week and there was scattered debris along the shore, mostly seaweed. Many hotels will clean it up but I was on a residential beach. Regardless, it was hit or miss not everywhere. No big deal. Everything is up and running.

Looks like you picked the right coast at the right time, as Jeanne begins to roll her ugly self all over the east coast. Not to worry about the beach, it will be spectacular. And the weather is starting to not have so much humidity so you'll have a great time.

Have friends that Live at Gulf Winds East - right next to Beach Retreat - you should be fine and if they haven't built the beach access steps by the time you get there - Use Gulf Winds East - they survived the storm and are usable to get to the beach. I haev pix of the area right after the storm and the water looks great.
