Destin - Algae Everywhere

We just got back from a family vacation in Destin this past week and I wanted to warn everyone about the algae problem. The water is full of green algae. It makes you not want to get in the water. I've been going down there almost every summer for the past 25 - 30 years, and I have never seen it this bad. I don't think the problem is confined to the Destin area. I think it is all along the Alabam & Florida Panhandle beaches. I've heard the problem is a result from all of the fertilizer that drains from the Miss. River.

Maybe it was worse because of the especially bad flooding this year. More stuff getting carried out into the Gulf than usual.
