Considering a trip to Destin between Christmas & New Years. Does anyone who has been there at that time of the year recall what the weather was like then?

beth: my sister went there same week two years ago - too cold for swimming - the temps were in the 50's then.

Beth - you can check temperatures and weather conditions from past years by going to weatherunderground.com It shows mean temperatures in Destin for the past several years being in the 40s and 50s.

I tracked the weather last Winter for Destin because we will be there this year and we wanted to kow what to expect. The temp varied, but seemed to average in the mid 50's. Last year we were only there till med-Dec and even on those 50+ DAYS, WHEN THE SUN WAS SHINING, IT WAS GREAT. wE SAT ON THE BEACH IN OUR SHORTS, sorry about that, hit the wrong key, and it was really pleasant. A little chilly when the wind blew and when we went out to watch those magnificent sunsets we needed a jacket.<BR><BR>The pool where we stayed gets covered in the winter so we were able to swim.

Boy did I make a mistake here! I looked at my weather sheet last night and I told you too cold! The weather in Dec. and Jan averaged in the 60's. Mostly from 62-68 in the day time and much cooler at night. There were one or two days when the temps hit 42 but it was at a time when the entire south was socked with a cold wave. Sorry about that!

Count on wearing short sleeves most of the time. My parents live East/NorthEast of there, while we're several hundred miles further north. When we go down in mid-winter, we're in short-sleeves while my parents are in long-sleeves.

CF - I checked high and low temps for the past 5 years on December 25, since that's when Beth said she wanted to go. In 1997 the high was 66 and in 2000 the high was 60, but in 2001 and 1998, the high was only 48 and in 1999 the high was 53.
