DESPERATE EXPAT: need fone number
Hello Fodorites,
I am an expat an desperatly need the general information number for the state of Washington. I know when I lived in the states many years ago, one just called 411. That does not work from Europe. I also tried area code+ 555-1212, as I thought that would connect me to an information operator. It does not work either, Please help me. Thanks and Happy Easter (Frohe Ostern) to you and your loved ones.

Thanks for the replies, I did call the german operator but she did not understand enough english to figure out what I was trying to do. My hubby just called his sister in Takoma, WA and she called 411 and got the number for me. Before all the flaming begins for not thinking of that myself, this woman is a dysfunctional family member I can do without so I would not ask her for anything much less to actually do something for me. Happy easter to all you and your loved ones.

For future reference, if you ever need it, there are many online phone number searches. The one I use mostly is www.theultimates.com and it's really good, because it has the option to search many directories from the same location.

Thanks to all who replied. I spent one hour on google trying to figure out how to get a personal phone number for someone who currently resides in Washington. She is family member and I have her phone number but it is in my professional email. Much to my chagrin, the server is acting up and I could not log in from home. I will fix it when I go to work on Tuesday,as this is a German Easter holiday weekend. Yes, I tried all those sites and they all either said no listing or referred to a pay website for background checks. Scary...I speak excellent German but when I am upset or anxious I can barely get a word out hence the communication problem with the operator. In the IT field the common language is english, so my German is good but it is not my first language and not necessary to do my network job.
